Man this is hard.

Shortlist would include Rust Cohle, Omar, Maeve from Westworld, Tony Soprano, and Nucky Thompson.

I'm also partial to Stringer Bell

I know it was an unpopular opinion last time we did this, but I still have Bunk as the best Wire character.

Bunk is under rated

Lack of love for "Oz" characters around here. I'd go with O'Reily. Survived the whole series and made it out of Emerald City.

Oz was a dry run for prestige TV yet to come, doesn't really belong in the conversation of HBO greatness.

McManus was fucking terrible though. I mean, his character was necessary but that guy just sucked.

Arli$$,he was Ari before Ark Was way more over the top funnier and was actually likeable.

Miguel Alvarez (OZ) played the long game with his revenge. In a fast of total suck have he at times came across as a some what not that an evil fuck.

Schillinger, evil pure and simple evil. He would have shanked his mom to make a deal.

Pauline Walnuts, Everyone talks about how dumb Chris was but Paulie might have been actually retarded. Yet he kept coming up roses, every time he might get called by Tony or MY he comes through or reflects it off onto someone else, even when he is in jail. I seriously though Tony was gonna come back alone when they went on the lamb to Florida. Plus, the final episode should have had the Russian come back.

Lt Spears Band of Brothers,Fucker was cold blooded killed and ran across an active battlefield twice to rally the troops.

Omar is the winner but this is so hard to pick. It's hard enough to pick the greatest character on any particular show let alone all of the fantastic stuff that HBO has put out.

Uh huh, yeah, and then the last scene should have been Tony saying "but through it all, we truly were...The Sopranos," then turning to the camera, winking, and saying "Thanks for watching." Jesus Christ.

This feels like dejavu. I feel like you had this exact exchange with either chas or scorehead before.

Depends on your sense of humor I guess. Some people probably find him annoying after a while.

If I were picking a serious character, #1 would be Tony Soprano.

I'll probably get killed for this but I've never seen an single episode of the Larry Sanders Show. Not on purpose, just never got around to it.

Gotta be Tony Soprano. The humor, sarcasm and witty banter that was integrated into scenes was unmatched. Some of the biggest scenes were peppered with humor.

Tony's interaction with pivotal characters like Livia, Christopher, his kids, Richie, Carmela, etc. showed many layers of his world.

Killed? No! For years it was relatively hard to find -- there was the first season on DVD, a best-of, and that was about it unless you were willing to resort to low-res youtube videos. The full series only made it to HBO Go shortly after Shandling died. But it's all there now, and you should definitely check some out. The one where Hank is the guest host is one of my favorites, but the first three years or so, you cannot go wrong.

Junior was the best Soprano character, The Sopranos is ridiculously over rated though. I'd take a character on Deadwood, Game of Thrones or the Wore before Sopranos.

You should be commended, the show sucked..Gary Shandling was never funny at any time.

I was always a Bodie guy. He always felt like a real person where you understood his motivations and was just a tragic story. His scene with McNulty on the bench was fantastic.

It was a great character and a great performance.
