Head to Binny's Chicago - Lincoln Park for the biggest Goose Island Bourbon County release in Chicago. We’re making some changes based on your feedback. First, we’re opening our doors two hours early – 7:00 am – only at Binny’s Lincoln Park. Keep an eye on our twitter account throughout the day of the release.

Intelligentsia and Goose Island staff will be onsite early in the morning with coffee and some other surprises. Starting Thursday night, our parking lot will be closed to make room for the line. We suggest using public transportation. We’ll have extra porta johns this year, and we’re pumping up staff to make sure everybody in line knows what is going on.

Your most common feedback from last year’s release was about the line, so we’re adding overnight staff and extra safeguards to limit cutting and confusion. Throughout Thursday night, we’re passing out wrist bands as people get in line, 1000 total. This will help us keep count on the line. Please stay in line. Sometime Friday morning, we’ll pass out the actual tickets to purchase your full allocation. No wrist band, no ticket. No ticket, no BCBS.

IMPORTANT: Another common piece of feedback was about allocations and the checkout process. To keep the line moving, we are only offering the full allocation of this year’s releases for sale as one full case (plus optional vintage bottles and extras). It’s all or nothing, and we’re pretty sure you’ll want it all:
2 Bourbon County Brand Stout
2 Bourbon County Brand Wheatwine
2 Bourbon County Brand Bramble Rye Stout
2 Proprietor's Bourbon County Brand Stout
1 Reserve Bourbon County Brand Stout
1 Bourbon County Brand Vanilla Stout
1 Bourbon County Brand Midnight Orange Stout
1 Bourbon County Brand Coffee Barleywine

Quote:
Plus early arrivers will have a chance to buy this year’s collectible Spiegelau BCBS glass. The first 200 through the doors will also receive a Goose Island tote bag with commemorative book and 2018 poster. Please remember this isn’t a campout or a bottle share – it’s a release of some awesome beer and we want to keep it awesome. Some rules for this release:
NO TENTS * NO CAMPING * NO OPEN FIRES * NO CUTTING IN LINE
NO OPEN CONTAINERS * NO LITTERING

Yikes. A full allocation will run at minimum run $275 I'd guess. Good on the "No Tents"/"No Camping" rule. Allowing those items are why weirdos show up so early.

Binny's should just do the world a favor and murder those people.

Tents weren't the problem last year. No staff on site to steer the line was how things get jacked up. Sounds like you're going to fix that. Please let small tents and shelters remain. God forbid it gets really cold and someone dies of hypothermia.
  Fuck you, Chip. I hope its -20 outside and you're stupid enough to show up in a Tshirt.

It is like they are trying to make it prohibitive to wait in line in the cold. crazy, right?
This guy here gets it.

I showed up at my local guy at 9:58 AM last year (He opens at 10:00), and I bought a shit load more than that, and I didn't have to wait in line with insufferable people for 5 hours in the freezing cold. Do people not realize that more places than Binny's exist?

They used to do higher limits for the more widely distributed stuff, especially regular. I think having the single allocation type this year is probably smart for efficiency reasons, but it's not going to have much of an impact on the crazies because they'll still want to line up early for a chance to get the vintage bottles like VR. I liked the idea I read of having the vintage bottles be random rather than chosen just to further disincentivize the lines. It also sounds like Reserve is going to be pretty scarce everywhere else, so that will probably also guarantee this remains a shitshow.

The other thing is by opening at 7 instead of 9 this year, this will give the hoarders and resellers time to go hit other places in the city after they get their Binny's allotment.

Made 2 stops today and got a pretty good haul.

1 Prop
2 Reserves
2 of most of the variants
8 bottles of regular.

I think the regular bcbs is better than it's been in a few years.

Not a fan of this year's prop. That was a chocolate bomb.

Had each on draft except for Reserve...didn't bother waiting for the tapping after tasting the rest of the lineup. Conclusion: What are you doing Goose Island?!?!

These variants are simply a cash grab. They're crap crap crap. If they didn't have the BCBS label they'd be ridiculed for being over-flavored trash.

Vanilla - way too much vanilla. Hit yourself in the head with a bottle of vanilla, instead.
Midnight Orange - tastes exactly like a chocolate orange...which no one wants to drank a pint of.
Bramble - what a thin mess. Let's take BCBS and pour a shit ton of raspberries and blueberries.

Let's repeat after me Goose Island...I will stop putting fruit in BCBS.

Prop - a chocolate bomb. Pastry stout...get that trash out of here.
Wheatwine - not bad! But not a BCBS, y'know?
Coffee Barleywine - not too shabby. Was least excited for this one and it's probably the 3rd best behind wheatwine and regular.

BCBS has become quite the mess with the Great Lakes region beer fans having a cult-ish following. Beer tastes awful.?..wellll still GI BCBS so 4.5. Get real.

I'm really not a fan of these things. Opened one of last year's bottles a couple days ago. Meh.

Asked and answered.

I'm not a huge craft beer guy, but aren't there MANY better options out there nearly year round?

Also; Bramble - WHAT A THING mess!! Lets take BCBS and pour a shit ton of rasberryes & blueberryes in? And call it good BEER?

Goldmund by Solemn Oath is pretty fucking good. $10 for a 12oz can is a bit steep though.

It’s almost out of habit, or the consumer joy of finding something rare at this point. There are many barrel aged stouts of the same quality now.

I had a 16 on Saturday night...I liked it better this year than I did back then. I still have a half dozen of the 16's left, a couple of 15's and one from last year (I think).
