Because it's a thing people say. I did tip him on the liquor. I've just never been in that situation before.

I believe the thought process is if you stay in a restaurant and order a couple $100 bottles of wine for after dinner, you shouldnt have to tip 20%.

Im an overtipper in general, though. Usually Ill do 30% but last night caught me off guard.

I guess I don't know who those people are saying that thing, because I've never heard it.

I can understand tipping on the pretax bill rather than the bill plus tax. I've never heard of not tipping for the liquor portion of a bill. That would be a major dick move.

I tend to tip 20% minimum on booze and about 20% on food.

My wife looks at the pretax bill to figure out tip. I don't care enough to split it out.

Yeah I tip on the final total as well, and it is usually 20% on that amount unless I receive really good or really bad service.

Also, I tip exactly $5 on almost all delivery orders. The only reason to tip more than that is if the delivery guy has to carry multiple bags, drinks, or some other hassle (like weather). But two pizzas in one pizza delivery bag...and I live a few minutes away? $5.

At this point in the general consciousness, I'm surprised this is even a question.

If you are going to a restaurant where a waiter or a waitress brings food or drink to your table for your meal, you tip 20% minimum on the total cost of the food and drink, the tip is just part of the cost of the meal.

If you don't want to tip 20% minimum, go eat somewhere that you schlep your own grub around.

My favorite pizza tip experience is the day that my wife and I closed on our house we went there to celebrate and had a pizza delivered. I tipped the guy $100 on a $25 dollar pie.

I'm biased having driven for years but I figure the $3 extra us not going to make much difference to me but will to a person needing every dollar at a job like that.

$5 is fine. No shame. Its just not a "good" tip anymore

My problem is going 7-8 on pizza delivery is that my total is usually 16-18 bucks...have a hard time justifying 50% in my brain. My pizza minimum is 5...if a larger order, usually around 20-30%

The pick up the damn pizza you cheap Jew.

I tipped over 20% on the pretty tax bill.

I've just never paid a bill where liquor was such a heavy percentage of it.

Same applies to the person bringing you those drinks you don't want to tip on.

You tipped 18% on of the total. Thats acceptable. Its not great, but its nothing I would worry about either.

As someone who also delivered pizzas for a few years, asking/expecting $7-8 is comical. Most people aren't giving you more than $5 unless the total bill is $50+

I'm not trying to help a person out. I'm tipping a fair amount for a service provided. I don't have some goal to be the best tipper or be some hero to the delivery guy.

I didn't say it was common but its not nearly as rare as you make it out to be.

I haven't delivered in years and back then I'd get 2-3 $7 tips per night.

Maybe a couple. It almost always averaged out to $4-5 per delivery when I delivered.

Hank the janitor in Grant Towers North stiffed me on a lid I fronted him after some hard-luck story. I don't tip based on need.

Twice I've had people ask for the change when giving me a $20 and the bill was like $19.30 or whatever. I was like lol nah man don't have change with me and just walked back to my car both times. People are the worst.

No, they do that when there is a larger party and its printed directly on the menu. Restuarants don't decide to add gratuity at random. smfh.
