Spmack, the first time I saw her she was broadcasting from the Bud Biliken parade, which she said that she had never heard of. Now growing up in Evanston and having a father who often hosted the channel 9 coverage it seemed odd. To top that, I've heard her say more routinely clueless things ever since.

To be as plain looking as she is, you'd think she'd actually work at her craft. But no, she plods along doing as little as possible befitting her legacy status.

To Nas: I would over and over, but now RR has me thinking she might be kinda plain, and I don't want to live that again with someone.

I'm going to have to research some of her newscasts. That is terrible if she truly said she never heard of the Bud Biliken parade at the time.

I bumped into him once... shoot almost 30 years ago. Think his kid was close to my age as it was at a basketball game that no one would go to for fun. He seemed like a pleasant enough guy. RIP

A little off the subject but my all time favorite Chicago newsguy was Len O'Connor. Did commentary in late 70s on WGN news. My Grandfather called him "dead and dying".

Former WGN newsman Jack Taylor still does commentaries on WDCB's Midwest Ballroom program. But he's like 90, so most of the times I've heard it, I don't know what the hell he's talking about. Probably something about how if they use that word in their songs, he should be able to too.

Fact checking my brain. In comparison to MANY, this is not accurate for Warner Saunders good sir. Additionally, 'News reading' was not what made him good, or why I would have placed him in a higher echelon of the news media in the city.

Ignore him, beni. Vitoscotti doesn’t like him for other reasons.

I always thought of him as a sports guy that moved to anchor. He was just more successful at the transition than Weigel was.

I liked both of them though.

Seemed like a nice guy though and reading great comments from the younger people that he helped out at the start of their careers.

On the contrary. He was plain bad. I like all news readers usually. He stands out how bad he was. That's it.

I always thought of him as a community activist who couldn't make any money at that and ended up having to endure sports reporting to get into the nightly broadcast side of local TV. Common Ground (and Tilmon Tempo on Channel 5) were great TV, back when people actually had conversations.
