I took a 2 mile walk around town and every mother fucker doing yard work would just stand there blowing the leaves with a leaf blower. Is it really that hard to rake? Its a good workout, its environmentally friendly and it doesn't make a god awful annoying noise.

I grew up raking both fall and summer. Now we have less trees, smaller leaved trees and no trees within a 1/4 mile of our yard. It’s windy out here, I let Mother Nature clean up after herself for most part.

Blowers of moderate size aren’t terribly expensive. The big back pack ones are still a pretty penny if memory serves me right from when I looked at them for a couple farm uses. (Power sweeping bin floors, blowing debuted off baler and combine).

Plenty of compost from cleaning out the cattle lots. Usually enough straw, hay and stalk in there that the the need for more carbon is not great. Crapatoa will be steaming all winter.

I don’t have a lot of big trees. 6 maples and a bunch of orchard trees and a smattering of other small leafed trees. Have planted some more but hardwoods don’t grow fast. Usually I goto sleep with leaves on the trees and a front comes in and 24 hours later 50% of the leaves are off trees and 90% of those are out of the yard. I will collect the ones that settle against the house if we get a true west wind. I’m so far behind projects this time of year usually that it’s not a priority. This year, little bit slow for now.

There was one year my dad decided he was tired of raking leaves. We had MANY mature oak trees and some years the leaves got thick. His brilliant plan was To try burning the leaves in place. The lawn was. Lovely shade of black and killed a tree he had planted Probably a good thing he only tested in a section of yard..

I still don't see the point. Run them over with a lawn mower like they've been disposed of for millions of years. I think nature can handle leaves on the ground.

the only time i ever bag is if I am seeding or if the grass is wet. I always use a mulching lawnmower with no bag when mowing or removing leaves. Bagging all the clippings is wasting a lot of nutrients that should be going back into your lawn, especially if you use a organic fertilizer. I set my mower at the highest setting and cut frequently, and it chokes out almost all the weeds that try to take root. Also, aerating your yard yearly makes a HUGE difference in the thickness of your grass, gotta decompress that soil and give those roots some breathing room. Having a great looking lawn is surprisingly easy, and if you do it right the work becomes less and less and the payoff is greater and greater.
