Makes that kick and once again proves to be a Chicago football legend.

Accept for the indoor 47yder he missed in Minnesota that started the calls for his removal.

The first person I thought of yesterday when Nagy ran on the 3rd down was Trestman.

He was injured and had built up enough goodwill with years of clutch kicks that fans shouldn't have immediately thrown him under the bus.

Nagy got conservative at the wrong time but most would say that's the right call. Howard failed.

Rolling Mitch out was the smart call, run pass option. I knew that bum would shank it.. They needed to get a first and move up 7 or 8 yards for that scrub.

He's not really a bum. They signed him to be a medium range, high accuracy kicker. Thats not a bad thing to have when you look around the league at these teams who shank PAT's and 40 yarders routinely.

If they had Justin Tucker I'd have been fine with lining up for 53. But they don't. Despite Nagy's insistence to the contrary they know that. He just let fear get the best of him and blew three straight playcalls. To see Nagy deflecting this onto the kicker is disgusting.

If you can't consistently knock down 52 yarders, I don't want you on my team.

There were 7 kicks of 50 plus yesterday, Parky is the only guy who missed. 6 for 7 yesterday.

Then you are good with Parkey, because he missed from 53 yesterday.

He was 7 out of 8 from 50+ before yesterday. I don't trust him but those numbers say he should make the kick. The reality is he would have missed it from 40 as someone else pointed out.

Who? Parkey?

Parkey was the top FA kicker this year. To call him "on the street" would be like calling Allen Robinson on the street.

Did anyone in the world think that was going in? Honestly. Show of hands.

No.

That was a doomed effort. Almost obligatory.

I didn't think it was going in, that's my beef with the guy.

Cutting him was still the right decision. Kickers should never run their mouth.

However, he should be back in Chicago next year.

Gould is a free agent this off season ... as are Janikowski and Vinatiery ... not sayin', just sayin'.

It was time for Gould to go. Even he has stated something to that effect.

BUT, as I have said previously, at the time they signed Parkey, Elliott and Butker were sitting there as minimum wage alternatives. It's clear Pace either cannot evaluate kickers both in who he signs and who he chooses not to sign.

Six years ago today Gould missed 2 kicks, one a 47 yarder in an OT loss to the Vikings, pretty much dooming that season's Bears team (finished 8-8 in Trestman's 1st year) and future Bears teams as well (this game frequently mentioned as the turning point in his bears career).

Wonder if he still regrets not kicking for the Bears this year

His eventual grandkids certainly will not.

ah, the infamous 2nd down kick....
