My therapist and I thought it would be good to get a pet. Went to the shelter picked out a cute little calico cat named Peaches. 2 years old. When brought in she was pretty but lost the entire litter. Then she was in there for 5 months. I get her home,I swear she is more schizo than I am.
Only good thing is she is a very social cat and likes the attention. I swear she is worse than any woman I have even been involved with. One minute all cuddly next she is rippling my hand up.

Has she been spayed yet? Non-spayed cats can be pretty crazy.
Also, she is a calico; those types tend to be more psycho anyway.
If she is strictly an indoor cat, it's best to get her front claws taken out. Your skin, clothes, and furniture will thank you later.

They remove the last bone joint that's attached to the claw.

People also remove the ovaries or the balls of a cat to make sure they don't reproduce. Is that cruel too?

You do realize you are removing a body part from a cat in both instances correct?
I've never had a problem with any of my declawed cats.

here's the difference, drebin. you're taking a cat's defense system when you take away the claws. you're de-fingering the cat. neutering a cat doesn't affect its prowess or ability to defend itself or take away its innate sense of hunt. it's not just that it's cruel, it usually affects their behavior and personality. sometimes cats turn into biters when they get declawed.

get some scratch posts and catify your house, and you'll never have to worry about slashiness.

chas, watch a lot of "my cat from hell" to help understand the behavior of cats. despite the title and "reality tv" factor, it's one of the best shows to actually understand animals better.

I think I'm going to stick with the de-clawing of my cats that I've had over the 39 years of my life and had no problems with behavior, biting, etc.
I was giving advice to Chas on his cat. If he doesn't want to de-claw his cat, cool.

Congrats on the pet. My parents declawed their cats. When I had them during my first marriage they were not declawed. A good scratching
post works well but you also need to keep up with trimming the claws. A bit of a pain but that is kind of what you signed up for. I'll never get
another cat but enjoyed the ones I had. I believe my Siamese cat is still alive living with my ex wife. That was a pretty cool cat.
