I never even saw the Will Smith movie unless you are talking about Wild Wild West. It also was a movie.

Triggered.

I'm fine with hearing actual science but I have no desire to pay attention to someone that literally believes there is some huge conspiracy to destroy the most popular sport in America. Who would even be the ones pulling the strings on something like that and why?

What, in your mind, is "actual science"?

Anything that supports the liberal agenda.

as long as its the work of the good doctor Dan Carcillo M.D.

No it doesn't. Crazy people are making a lot of money nowadays saying crazy things.

Golic was discussing this today. Hoge does site doctors in his book. One problem with the CTE studies is that the sample is skewed—those families donating brains suspect something was wrong. For example, when, and if, Ditka dies, his brain will not be donated.

You would think the players that think this CTE stuff is just a conspiracy against football would be happy to donate their perfectly healthy brains too.

So, just so we are clear here, are some people arguing that constant hits to the head are not going to cause any brain issues?

It doesn't take courage to say that. It just takes the desire to make a dollar. There are people who make a living pushing stuff they don't believe.

Football is a dangerous sport, it breaks down bodies. Repeated blows to the head are going to have an impact on the mental and cognitive functions of a human being. Football is a dangerous sport.

Boxing is a dangerous sport, we've known this for a long time. People still box.
Being a jockey is dangerous, we've know this for a long time. People are still professional jockeys.
Even before it became a sport we've know that MMA was dangerous. People still are MMA fighters
Auto racing is a dangerous sport, we've know this for a long time. People still race cars.

As long as NFL players make the money that they do, teenage kids, and young adults are going to want to participate in the sport, especially if they have the talent and potential to make the NFL. For anyone to think that the NFL is going to be shut down because of this, it's laughable, and just distracts from what should be the conversation. What responsibility does the NFL and/or the NFL player's association have to its employees, both legally and ethically as it relates to their long term health, and health care?

The fact that playing NFL is bad for your brain has just started to enter the public consciousness in the past 5 years is sort of shocking actually. Especially with the changes in the size, strength, and speed of the players over the past 25 years or so. The NFL isn't going away any time soon due to the existence of gambling, network TV contracts, amazing stadium deals, etc.

I love football. I don't want it banned. Do you have CTE?

Its going to shock you, but libs are often not correct about things they will very certainly tell you are true. Is CTE one of those things? Probably not, but it doesn't hurt to have people asking questions. Should everyone just blindly accept?

Absolutely not. Otherwise the libs win the CTE war

It depends on what is being said. Can we blindly accept the likelihood that repeated hits to the head for years will have a negative impact on your brain? Sure.

I guess that is what I don't get about the opposite side here. It's pretty obvious that football is going to hurt your brain. Is this what is being refuted?

No, I just don't think it's a political issue. I have some pretty redneck conservative friends that aren't letting their kids play football. I think most people have come to agreement on CTE being a real risk when it comes to playing football over a long period of time, and it posing particular risks to developing brains.

What are you arguing? Are you saying that repeated hits to the head for years will not have a negative impact on your brain?

What's the point of even having a brain if you're going to blindly believe things for arbitrary reasons.

It isn't really blindly believing things at that basic of a level. There is a mountain of evidence, outside of football, that repeated hits to the head can cause long term injury to the brain.

I'm asking if you are arguing otherwise.

So long as the southern half of the United States exists, football is not going anywhere. If there isn't football how are we ever going to sell pick up trucks, light beer, and military service?

Think of it this way:

The reason lifting weights makes you stronger is because you are putting repeated, sometimes extreme, stress on those muscles and your nervous system responds by buttressing and strengthening those muscles to prepare for more stress. By your logic putting your quads through the stress of three-times-a-week squats would weaken and eventually destroy them, but we all know the opposite is true.

Am I saying you can condition your brain to withstand head blows? No. Not at all. You are desperately going to try and misconstrue this post as me saying that, but I'm not.

But, I dont find "my theory" that I explained above any less based on useless assumption than yours.
