The NFL fired a ref midseason for the first time ever. Cause was poor performance. Maybe the league is sending a message (finally?).

Houston is on a hot streak so watch them lose outright to Miami tonight.

Is it just me or the AFC shits the bed more often on these Thursday night games?

Quote:
Thursday November 23 Denver Broncos 10–19 Kansas City Chiefs Arrowhead Stadium First prime-time Thanksgiving game in NFL history held in the request of Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt, who had asked the NFL to schedule a third game for years. At the time of the game, Hunt was hospitalized in Dallas, Texas, and died weeks later at the age of 74.
Thursday November 30 Baltimore Ravens 7-13Cincinnati Bengals Paul Brown Stadium
Thursday December 7 Cleveland Browns 7–27 Pittsburgh Steelers Heinz Field
Thursday December 14 San Francisco 49ers 24–14 Seattle Seahawks Qwest Field Unsafe weather conditions and rain storm delay game by twenty minutes.
Saturday December 16 Dallas Cowboys 38–28 Atlanta Falcons Georgia Dome After the Cowboys-Falcons game, Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens came to the NFL Total Access set and acknowledged spitting in the face of Falcons' cornerback DeAngelo Hall early in the contest. There is no video, from that night's telecast or any other source, that is known to have captured the incident, but Owens was fined $30,000 by the NFL.
Thursday December 21 Minnesota Vikings 7–9 Green Bay Packers Lambeau Field
Saturday December 23 Kansas City Chiefs 20–9 Oakland Raiders McAfee Coliseum Sideline reporter Adam Schefter reported that the Oakland Raiders had begun the process to fire head coach Art Shell, which was immediately refuted by Al Davis. Weeks later, the report was true and the Raiders indeed relieved Shell of his duties.
Saturday December 30 New York Giants 34–28 Washington Redskins FedExField

Small sample size from 2006. I'd have to log and compile all of the results to do some advanced metrics. I can't find a site with any.

They should. It was a terrible call for supposedly hitting the long snapper in the head that led to the TD. It was shoulder to shoulder.

Awful call.

Everyone is tired of the refs thinking people watch these games to see them throw flags and get involved and it's finally boiling over.

One just got fired? For what

Ok I read about it. The referees association is going to war with the NFL.

Good luck. Makes sense now that the NFL announcers are shitting on the refs. NFL gives zero shits.

One just got fired? For what

Incompetence.

The league may have reached a similar conclusion to the one I've arrived at, which is that of the all supposed existential crises facing the league the officiating crisis is the worst. Worse than the concussions. Worse than the relocation fiasco. Worse than the fundamental impasse between players and owners over how the contracts work. Worse than the Death of Defense. The refs outright decide a staggering amount of games, I can think of countless examples this year alone where officials have inserted themselves into the game in high-leverage 4Q and/or scoring situations just to throw the flag and get on TV.

They petty and vindictive too. Clay Matthews complained about bad roughing calls? They showed him by doubling down and making sure he got called for the slightest contact. Akiem Hick incidentally bumped one? They made sure the Bears wouldn't get a single call @ Miami, and it may have ultimately decided the game.

When the games feel like they have no meaning because officials take over and inflict their will with sometimes obviously targeted and sometimes arbitrary and self-serving motives people aren't going to watch. The NFL only cares about the games and outcomes. At the end of the days that's all people care about. And the only thing really threatening that is the absolute crisis in officiating and the obviously poisoned look-at-me culture that has permeated the refereeing community in the NFL.

If Mitch missed that throw there would be rioting in the streets.

Mitch has missed that throw several times this year.

Watson's showing a lot more good than bad so far tonight.

Hm do you guys think FavreFan would say "oh, but he's overall been pretty good today" if Mitch missed a throw like that? Probably not. His angle is very obvious.

Watson's played well though. He's doing his whole doomed warrior thing behind that abhorrent OL.

This is a prime fucking example.

This has to change. The refs have to stop with this shit.

Martavis Bryant starting at WR could be fun.

Doug Martin starting at RB is depressing.

Arm moving forward, but then he tried to bring it in. That was a fumble.

Then they called illegal formation on a kneel down lol. Even Miami declined it, but they still had to kneel again

What a shit show
