I have a question regarding this great photo I just found...

If you blow up the pic and look closely at the crowd, it appears that a few people are wearing some kind of white headdress. It also looks to be knotted at all four corners. Does anybody know exactly what this signifies? I can only guess that it is religious?

I looked around the Google machine and cannot find anything.

From the text below the above link:

Note the population of white-bandana-ed fans that rings the lower level of the field all the way to the foul poles, apparently a show of solidarity with the white-capped home team (?)

 I guess I should have read a bit further. Thank, Hussra. I was so excited about the great pic that I glazed over the details below.

The original "Rally Cap".

Rally cap that turns into a rally towel.

I was initially thinking some sort of effort at keeping cool/the sun off your noggin. But then that game was in October in Chicago...so not so much. Probably the "team solidarity" speculation's correct but the OCD crew in that reddit sub might suss out a more complete answer. Or email Ken Burns.

 Yep - In 1907, there wasn't exactly a major merchandising campaign of any sort.

It's not like your most devoted fans could load up on gear at Wrigleyville Sports or Fanatics.com back then.

I guess the white towel was the next best thing.

If you look close enough out in the bleachers, you can see Ronnie Woo Woo's grandfather...

Let me preface this by saying that the following is not meant to be taking as a political statement, but I bet you at least 50% of the people in that photo attended, or knew someone who attended a lynching.
