Not really. You may not get an invoice directly from the HVAC (or plumbing, electrical, snow removal...) company, but you are paying for it one way or another.

At the end of the day, I'm not paying maintenance. I'm not paying property taxes. I'm not paying home insurance. I am not beholden to sudden changes in property value. Once a year, I negotiate a monthly flat rate or I can choose to relocate if I am not happy with even the slightest thing. The amount the property managers determine as 'MSRP' for an apartment lease includes whatever they need it to include to make sure they aren't taking a loss. And, well, I know what condos and townhomes go for in my area. I'm coming out just fine when all costs are considered.

In the future, when I want to buy a bigger condo, townhome or single family home, I'll be able to. But there isn't really an advantage to that at the moment.

It's pretty simple stuff.

I didn't say anything about your situation being advantageous or cost prohibitive.

But when your AC breaks or your need plumbing work done, somebody comes in to do it, that somebody gets paid, and you pay for it one way or another. It's pretty simple stuff.

The apartment maintenance staff has done every repair in my unit to this date, and I'm not aware of any HVAC repair that was done by another company. I'm not home during M-F weekdays, but I've honestly never seen a HVAC truck in our complex parking lot.

I should have been more clear on that.
