it was a lot like what jimmy fallon was notorious for...laughing through his own jokes. that line would have been really funny if delivered dry and matter-of-fact.

there is very little left of SNL that's worth watching. i can't believe it still has a following.

i'm a comedy free speecher for the most part. and here i'm like whatever, it wasn't funny is the problem. if he'd of been funny it would of been different.

But davidson isn't funny. i mired through his standup special waiting for a good part. never came. that said, dude is mercilessly made fun of for having his dad die in the towers on 9/11 and is a pretty good sport about it.

that's pretty shitty. im giving this dope the benefit of the doubt that they simply did not know his backstory or even think to look in to it.

I think I'd be more open to the "it's just comedy, bruh" defense if SNL (and other "comedians") didn't just outwardly hate Republicans/Conservatives so much, or at the very least attempted to shroud their disdain for anyone deemed "not liberal". Davidson's bit included riffing on the appearances of 4 Republican candidates and 1 Democrat, and the Dem was only thrown in to "seem fair" after making fun of the SEAL's injury.

At this point, it's not comedy, it's an unabashed, coordinated attempt to degrade, shame, and dehumanize certain political opponents of the SNL cast and writing staff. You don't get to hide behind the Comedy Shield when you go down this path.

Also, it's just kids on college campuses, I just didn't know NBC devoted an hour of live broadcast television to them every Saturday night.

Agreed on both Keenan and McKinnon. He's been a consistently solid, funny castmemeber. McKinnon is similar to Kristen Wiig in that a castmember who initially seemed promising has proven to be very one-dimensional and nearly every character she creates is largely the same.

Yup. Their "Divided We Stand" skit is essentially what SNL has been for the last two years, but I'm not sure they realize it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBy6Fnyss4c

It's not funny when you attack only one side. The dip shits on both sides need to be attacked.

Do people watch this show live?

I mean, it's the perfect show to just see the highlights or lowlights online the next day

Put those two in a movie together. There's no way it won't be a success!

Oh....

I doubt NBC/SNL cares about some Texas politician no one knew about before this.

You don't honestly think they'd be making fun of his eye patch if he was a Democrat running on a platform of #resistdrumpf, do you?

They would make fun of a no name. They take it easy on the big name Democrats and cry for Hillary.

Then where were all the funny-looking no-name Dems in that piece? Why did Republicans outnumber Dems 4:1? Even random chance gives us just a 16% probability that such a distribution is pulled randomly from all the two-party races in the country.

Even if we exclude the Navy SEAL because of the uniqueness of someone with an eye-patch, we're still left with a ratio of just 3:1 and a probability of just 25% of that distribution occurring due to pure randomness.

My thing is the "He lost his eye in the war or whatever". It's that part is what pisses me off. It just comes off so dismissive. "Those pesky GWOT vererans" *hand wave*

If he just said dude looks like a hitman in a porno I would laugh no problem

I can't argue with your study on the subject.

Should they care about military veterans who were injured in the line of duty? Is it okay for NBC/SNL to make jokes about them?

here is my question, would there be outcry on every major network if a conservative made a similar joke about Tammy Duckworth?

Yes.

it's a race by the victim industry to see who can cry fastest and loudest.

when america elects a person who makes fun of a captured war veteran it shows people don't truly care. if they do whine or cry it's for convenience.

I think they can. However, is your second question stating that military veterans who were injured should never have a joke about them?

False, SNL is not a comedy show and hasn't been one since the early 2000's

At this point it is an "attempted" comedy show.

No, but I think it's in horrible taste and someone at SNL should have cut out the joke especially in the political climate that they like to complain about. I guess my issue is more with his "whatever" dismissive comment.

It's not enough to have Republican hegemony in government. You have to be nice to them on TV, too.

Isn't that exactly the kind of thing that gets tons of complaints on here though? Should we just establish that comedy can't be offensive on either side now?
