#WhiteSox interested in *both* Manny Machado and Bryce Harper, source confirms, although it’s too early to know how realistic it is for them to sign either. #WhiteSox have second lowest current 2019 payroll commitment of any @MLB team. Cash and to be the face of the team. Getting in on the ground floor doesn't hurt either. Ask Lester about that.

Does Machado strike you as the kind of guy interested in anything other than signing for the most money possible?

Pretty sure no one can pay more if Jerry wants to open the checkbook. Of course, they'll both probably take the minimum to play for the Cubs.

Pay them $110 to $120M for the first 3 years with an opt out after year 3.

I've read that Machado's antics in the World Series are likely to cost him about $100 million. We'll see.

I would sign him before Harper.

No. And Machado is a piece of shit as far as I am concerned and a terrible role model for young players. He is also as dirty a player as a player can get.

Oh, bullshit. This will never happen with Reinny unless he is moving them to Vegas.

I promise you that any contract either of them agree to will have a player option opt out after 2-3 years. It only makes sense for them to leave the window open to another big pay day while they are still in their 20s.

I think they are getting one of them as I wrote in a thread several years back. There is precedent too: Albert Belle. Reinsdorf is getting old, and both of these teams have made him a lot of money.

Nobody should use a 22 year old transaction as evidence to back up an assertion like this. The fact that the transaction in question was terminated after only two years because the team refused to cough up a $4.25 million raise divided over three years makes it even worse.

Offer them a combined $300M for 4 years to play together. Tell them to split it however they see fit, but they both have to sign.

After the 4 years, individual club options for $40M/year for each of them for five more years. So total potential prize package is $700M over 9 years.

I get it. They also won't end up with a consolation prize like Donaldson or Moustakas.

They're not getting either. Jerry will tell Rick his best offer. Rick will submit it. And the agent will laugh and hang up the phone.

Legit in Jerry's mind. Not legit in this big boy league of free agency. Some team will be willing to top any other offer. That team isn't the White Sox. Jerry is not sitting at this poker table.

Does anyone know what the Ohtani offer was compared to what he got?
