got around to seeing this now that its on Netflix. Solid enough flick. Doesn't really drag. Keeps constant pace. Wraps up nicely. Elisabeth Olson continues to be the best Olson.

Cannot believe this movie was so shunned by the Oscar community. Without a doubt one of the best movies I saw in 2017. The last 30 minutes are unbelievably good.

I agree. Excellent movie. Probably Jeremy Renner's best role along with The Town.

That shootout scene was one of the better scenes in a movie in a long time.

Plus, Elizabeth Olsen's big fun bags are always a welcome sight.

I couldn't believe it either. Major snub IMO.

Taylor Sheridan is knocking shit out of the park since he left sons of anarchy.

So the reason this film was snubbed by the oscars was because it was one of the last films backed by Harvey Weinstein.

Still prolly the best movie of 2017 IMO. 3 billboards and Shape of Water were really good, but those movies didn't leave you with the emotional imprint Wind River did/does.

Plus, I'd put the shootout scene up against just about anything similar I've ever scene.

The flashback to the night of the rape/murder was hard to watch from many angles. More emotion > fish fucking and sam rockwell playing a shitty cop.

The shoot out was one of the most tense scenes I have seen in a while.

Excellent movie. Jeremy Renner and Olsen did really well. Nice bit parts too.

Renner is in the Brad Pitt category where he is overdue for an Oscar.

Glad Rockwell finally got one tho.

Yes I'm glad Rockwell got one too.

I forgot the last scene with Pete where he makes him confess. Very cool.

Taylor Sheridan movies don't require a lot of exposition.

Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River have simple plot yet effective plots.

when acted well (or, allowing the actors to seem "real") the simplest of plots will always come off as true to life or the most moving. flashy and convoluted can be fun to follow sometimes, but give me a down to earth crime story where people have real intentions or find themselves in a shit load of trouble by simple means. I suppose that's why I enjoy the Cohen's and the subsequent TV show so much

Remembered this getting some love here so when I stumbled upon it yesterday looking for something to watch I checked it out. It was a good movie all around. Didn’t know that was the Olsen twins sister. Not bad.

Randomly watching again right now.

Just a great movie.

Too bad it was produced by Harvey Weinstein right as everyone found out he had been raping women for 3 decades.

I watched this last night. The first time I've ever liked Renner as a good guy.

The saddest thing in a sad movie is when Renner asks his Indian buddy how he learned about face painting and he replied, "I made it up. There's nobody left to teach me."

all the negative reviews for 1883 are basically referencing the same thing - "Not enough examples of Indian plight. Too much White People story."

convinced journalism is just color by number/fill in the blank templates

Just caught this tonight. Renner is great but miscast here. He’s Gem, not some Wyoming native tracker guy.

The shootout scene was very good, but its not Heat level.

Solid B movie

Disagree. He’s fine mostly because hes a great actor, but a textbook miscasting imo

The shootout scene had quite an emotional punch. It was almost like divine retribution. It's been several years since I've seen that movie, but I still think of that scene from time to time.

Definitely. Gem in the town is his most perfect role. A bad guy who is on the side of the good guy we’re rooting for.
