I agree. We are seeing Mitch continuing to improve every week. That is the important thing. Losing Long will hurt the offense and they are going to have to somewhat change their plans around his loss. I still have concerns about the running game.

PFF ratings for starting QBs through Week 9. Spoiler alert - you have to scroll down a ways before you get to Mitch.

Quote:
1. DREW BREES, QB, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
2018 Overall Grade: 94.2
Accuracy percentage: 67.4% (1st)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 95.1 (1st)

No quarterback has done it better than Brees, as he leads all quarterbacks in overall grade, accuracy percentage and clean-pocket overall grade through Week 9. He also has garnered the third-lowest turnover-worthy play percentage (1.43%) among quarterbacks with at least 100 dropbacks.

2. PATRICK MAHOMES, QB, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 92.7
Accuracy percentage: 57.1% (T-18th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 92.1 (5th)

Mahomes has lit the NFL on fire with his play under center for the red-hot Kansas City Chiefs. He shares the NFL lead in big-time throws (23) with a few other highly ranked guys on this list and leads all signal-callers in touchdowns of 10-plus air yards.

3. JARED GOFF, QB, LOS ANGELES RAMS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 91.7
Accuracy percentage: 58.7% (13th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 94.9 (2nd)

Building on a strong sophomore campaign, Goff has taken his game to the next level in Year 2 under Sean McVay. His 94.9 overall grade from a clean pocket ranks second behind Brees, and he shares the big-time throw lead with Mahomes and Seattle’s Russell Wilson at 23.

4. Philip Rivers, QB, Los Angeles Chargers

2018 OVERALL GRADE: 90.9
Accuracy percentage: 60.9% (7th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 89.8 (12th)

Rivers’ passer rating on throws of 10-plus air yards (139.0) ranks second among qualifying quarterbacks, his overall grade ranks fourth, and his accuracy percentage (60.9%) ranks seventh. Yet, he still isn’t getting the respect he deserves as a top-signal caller in this league and legitimate MVP candidate.

5. AARON RODGERS, QB, GREEN BAY PACKERS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 90.5
Accuracy percentage: 51.4% (29th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 92.9 (4th)

Rodgers’ accuracy percentage is far from impressive this season, but he has still managed to produce the fourth-ranked grade from a clean pocket. It’s his play under pressure that’s keeping him from getting ahead of the young guns in front of him, as his passer rating under pressure (58.5) ranks 23rd on the season.

6. RYAN FITZPATRICK, QB, TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 90.1
Accuracy percentage: 60.3% (9th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 94.4 (3rd)

There’s nothing magic about it, as Fitzpatrick has simply found ways to deliver the football accurately and efficiently all season long. He ranks ninth in accuracy percentage and third in overall grade from a clean pocket through Week 9, and, more importantly, he ranks second behind Seattle’s Wilson in big-time throw percentage at 10.33%.

7. TOM BRADY, QB, NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 89.5
Accuracy percentage: 59.4% (11th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 91.6 (6th)

“Brady behind Fitzpatrick? Are you insane?” – Pats fan, probably.

In the grand scheme, Brady is a much better quarterback than the magic man in Tampa Bay, but he falls just behind Fitzpatrick on this list in overall grade due to drop-offs in accuracy percentage (59.4%) and clean-pocket overall grade (91.6). But if history tells us anything, he doesn’t finish seventh on this list at year’s end.

8. KIRK COUSINS, QB, MINNESOTA VIKINGS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 84.3
Accuracy percentage: 60.3% (8th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 90.1 (10th)

Cousins has found heaven in Minnesota in the form of Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen, as he has more than gotten his money’s worth from his two superstar wideouts this season, specifically when targeting the duo deep down the field. Cousins, Rodgers and Mahomes each have 18 big-time throws on passes of 20-plus air yards, but Cousins leads the trio in big-time throw percentage (48.6%) and ranks second among all quarterbacks in passer rating (136.5) on such throws.

9. ANDY DALTON, QB, CINCINNATI BENGALS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 84.1
Accuracy percentage: 59.3% (12th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 90.4 (9th)

Dalton is quietly having the best season of his career in Cincinnati, the leading reason why the Bengals are still in the hunt for a playoff berth. He currently ranks ninth in overall grade and clean-pocket grade among qualifiers, and he ranks 13th in passer rating on throws of 10-plus air yards (105.0).

10. CARSON WENTZ, QB, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 83.9
Accuracy percentage: 56.9% (20th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 90.0 (11th)

Though he ranks outside the top-10 in accuracy percentage and clean-pocket grade, Wentz has still played well enough to earn a top-10 spot in terms of overall grade. He ranks third in passer rating on throws of 10-plus air yards (139.0) and seventh in passer rating under pressure (119.4) so far this season.

11. ANDREW LUCK, QB, INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 83.7
Accuracy percentage: 61.7% (5th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 90.4 (9th)

12. MATT RYAN, QB, ATLANTA FALCONS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 83.1
Accuracy percentage: 64.5% (2nd)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 85.7 (17th)

13. RUSSELL WILSON, QB, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 81.2
Accuracy percentage: 61.1% (6th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 87.1 (13th)

14. DESHAUN WATSON, QB, HOUSTON TEXANS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 79.8
Accuracy percentage: 50.2% (30th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 86.1 (16th)

15. CAM NEWTON, QB, CAROLINA PANTHERS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 79.3
Accuracy percentage: 53.9% (24th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 90.0 (11th)

16. MATTHEW STAFFORD, QB, DETROIT LIONS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 78.6
Accuracy percentage: 57.1% (T-18th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 86.7 (15th)

17. MARCUS MARIOTA, QB, TENNESSEE TITANS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 76.7
Accuracy percentage: 57.5% (15th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 80.5 (23rd)

18. DAK PRESCOTT, QB, DALLAS COWBOYS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 74.7
Accuracy percentage: 54.0% (23rd)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 86.8 (14th)

19. BAKER MAYFIELD, QB, CLEVELAND BROWNS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 74.5
Accuracy percentage: 57.4% (16th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 83.5 (20th)

20. DEREK CARR, QB, OAKLAND RAIDERS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 73.7
Accuracy percentage: 62.5% (4th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 84.1 (18th)

21. JOE FLACCO, QB, BALTIMORE RAVENS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 72.0
Accuracy percentage: 52.2% (27th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 80.4 (24th)

21. BEN ROETHLISBERGER, QB, PITTSBURGH STEELERS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 72.0
Accuracy percentage: 54.6% (21st)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 81.4 (22nd)

23. BLAKE BORTLES, QB, JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 69.0
Accuracy percentage: 54.1% (22nd)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 74.1 (28th)

24. ALEX SMITH, QB, WASHINGTON REDSKINS
2018 OVERALL GRADE: 68.8
Accuracy percentage: 57.3% (17th)

Clean-Pocket Grade: 82.5 (21st)

25. CASE KEENUM, QB, DENVER BRONCOS

This is exactly why PFF is bullshit too. I've been critical of Mitch but if your algorithm says Osweiler Eli and Keenum have been better this year it should be a clear cut sign your algorithm is trash and needs to be adjusted.

If you think Mitch is closer to Peterman than at least the middle the ranking is off.

I saw it. I don't agree with it but at least they have some formula for their ranking.

They put a shitload of weight into that clean pocket grade. I have faith that Mitch will get to a point where he mops up when given time to survey the field, but right now, he’s missing too many easy ones because his throws are sailing on him.

In good company with inaccuracy. To be fair to Rodgers though, seeing plenty of his games, he throws the ball away to avoid sacks a heck of a lot. No idea if this counts those though.

lol @ all these bull crap metrics getting thrown around. Meaningless.

Mitch is doing fine, he’s even having a really good year overall so far. Solid completion %, good TD to INT ratio, has helped his team to a winning record.. he’s still developing. Of course he also has some ‘wtf’ throws and moments but he’s coming along and those things will get better as he plays more, becomes more familiar with the offense, and works out timing with his receivers and so on. I’m excited as a fan because I know I’m looking at a QB that’s at least going to be good. Not sure if he’ll ever be ‘great’ -but there is nothing wrong with him just being good. That solves a whole slew of issues in the modern NFL (and honestly thru most generations of the NFL).

Like anyone, he’s gotta stay healthy tho.

I’ll be curious to see how PFF rated his performance today. They really hate his guts. Mitch is not only chick repellent (with the beard), he is also nerd repellant. But he is a champion in our hearts.

His run for TD and his short pass that went for a TD don't count.

Add Mitch to the franchise record books. He joins jay cutler and bill wade?!? for the most 300 yard passing games in a single season, at 4.

Getting Robinson back healthy was a big time plus for Mitch. He consistently leads his receivers in stride right now and is getting better on the deep balls especially with Robinson's ability to elevate and get the ball. ALso, that QB draw was text book and iced the game for them. You cannot underestimate the ability of a quarterback who can run.

Right now, Mitch looks to me like a young Rothlisberger but with more speed. And if that is his ceiling, it is just dandy for me. :bom: :bom: :bom:

I don't see Big Ben in him. Mitch uses his legs a lot more. When I watch Ben, he tries to hang in the pocket a long time to make the throws. They have different body types.

Aaron Rodgers would be ideal but even I'm not willing to go there. He reminds me of McNabb and Romo.

Romo would be a good comp. 6-2 230.
Mitch 6-3 223

Mitch is solid. Looks like he does weight training. I think that helps him handle any punishment. That wasn't the case with McNabb or Romo.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is about to surpass Romo's career rushing yards within the next few games. Their skillset is nothing alike and at best their similarities begin and end at 'of some European descent.'
