Was stunned when my phone company told me they offer 100GB and 200GB plans. This costs upward of $600 per month.

People really pay this kinda money PER MONTH for data?

Whatever happened to a nice internet connection at home for $40 a month?

200GB is insane as well. Can a phone battery stay up long enough to download almost 10GB a day?

My Google Fi plan is a penny a MB for data nearly worldwide, capped at $60 If I hit 6GB, plus $20 for unlimited domestic talk/text and $5 for smartphone protection.

I rarely hit 2.5 GB, this month I am at 0.91 GB after 18 days.

My data usage has gone down noticeably now that xfinity has expanded its wifi hotspots around the region, fixed its app to actually recognize and log into those hotspots, and entered into a reciprocal agreement with TWC and a couple of other national cable/wifi players.

We have Verizon, 10gB plan with six phones ($294 this most recent bill). We push this limit most months. This summer we broke the 10gig barrier twice, once while daughter was at camp with no wifi and once while oldest son was interning at VA hospital with no wifi privileges. Extra gig was $15, each kid got to pay me for those, since it was clearly their usage. So I swung by to check on the VZN Unlimited plan, would have cost over $100 per month more than we pay now, every month. The next limit was 16gB, the was over $75 per month more. I just told the kids they were paying for any extras, keep it down.

The reason we stay with VZN was coverage at our kids' high school was almost exclusively VZN only, why give them a phone to keep in touch with schedule issues if they could not get signal to call or text. I do get a discount through work, but the big cost is the phone updates, which I typically pass on to the kids as well.

question for the few of you old enough to have adult kids: Do they ever leave your plan? Insurance companies have clear limits for coverage of kids, but phones don't. Heck, my Mom's phone is on our plan for $15/mo (I pay that in full).
