What have you overpaid for?

If you don't think you're going to quit for good, might be better to keep on smoking. The plural of anecdote may not be data but there's ample anecdotes of folks who smoke 2 packs a day constantly from age 15 to age 85 with nary a medical blip; and equally potentially spurious but intriguing evidence on the other side that ping-ponging between smoker and non-smoker is worse than continuously smoking. Peter Jennings seemed to think that after 2 decades off of cigarettes taking up smoking again post-911 activated or whatever his quickly fatal lung cancer: https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/son-abc-anch ... d=12156117

Dead Again! Underrated movie. Emma Thompson was hot back then. And who knew Newman was good friends with two Shakespearean actors?

Probably b/c William Goldman's in the news, but I was thinking that scene was from Good Will Hunting; which Goldman's rumored to have either ghost-written or touched up Affleck & Damon's script. Bit o' googling led me to Dead Again's IMDB.

Uber Eats now will price delivery based on the distance you live from the restaurant. I paid .$99 for delivery the other day. I'm not sure what the agreement with their drivers are but that would piss me off.

The delivery charge isn't what comes to mind. The upcharge for the food is what I'm thinking of.

Some places definitely do this. If you frequent the places enough you'll know which ones are increasing their prices by 30% or more. I'm not lazy enough where I want to pay an extra $5 for the food and $5 for delivery.

It was expensive, but I'm too lazy to return it.

I've bought headphones in airports at least 4 times. That's like $100 worth of headphones and literally none of them are worth using.

I just did this yesterday. Fortunately, the Las Vegas airport has one of those Best Buy kiosks, so my $19+tax went to a pair of decent skull candy headphones with a mic jack. I left the pair I usually bring with me at home in a different travel bag.

It was a really cold winter night and a bunch of us were at O'Callghan's on Hubbard. We decided we were going to head over to Coyote Ugly which was on Erie. It's not that long a walk but it was fucking cold so we were gonna cab it. (This story predates Uber.)

We came out and there were about 30 people waiting for taxis. I was freezing my balls off. A black dude driving a stretch limo with no one in back pulled up. I asked him how much to take us to Coyote Ugly. He said he couldn't do it. I said, "There's 4 of us. How about $40 a guy?" He said, "Get in!"

My friends still give me shit for paying $160 for a three block ride.

I have an amazingly similar story  :

NYE, a few years back.....a group of us had rooms at a certain river north hotel....we were going to see Jimmy Eat World/Smoking Popes at House of Blues

Walked up to get a taxi...had to be 30+ people waiting in line....but there was one HUGE stretch SUV waiting there...he said he was heading to the UC to pick up people after the Bulls game, but he would drop us off for $30 each. There was 6 of us. And it was snowing kinda hard.

He drove like 4 blocks for $180 total.
You best believe we tried our best to chug the warm cans of Miller Lite in that thing.

We walked back to our hotel after the show....in 6" of snow..... It was surprisingly easy. Like $180 easier...

I bought a mouth guard since I grind my teeth. My dentist had mentioned it a couple cleanings in a row. So I agreed to get fitted for one at my last cleaning. I always research things but I figured I was there at the dentist and so what if there's a small upcharge. Cost me $165. You can get ones at Walmart for $25. Granted, I have a custom, fitted mouth guard but I can't imagine the one for $25 wouldn't act as a sufficient barrier between my teeth while I sleep.

I can't remember the final price but after a Bears game we were walking away from Soldier Field and the beautiful Mrs. Fella can't walk any longer. She's got bad feet.

She's a few paces ahead of me and flags down one of those bike taxi guys. I hear her flirting and negotiating the price down. I hear her say; "Deal!". She looks back at me and tells me to hurry up while she is climbing in.

Bike taxi guys asks in his best English; "He ride, too?!?.." She says yes and he says; "Big boy! $20 bucks more!".

Airport headphones...one time.

Any time I would buy from Brookstone (shitty and overpriced).

Any time I had leftover currency and would hit overpriced duty free stores to avoid having to exchange cash. $20 Kit Kat bar in Zimbabwe? $10 box of tea selling for 99 cents in Bolivian stores?
