I never really thought about it but why would a fast food/svc set up a system any other way? It's more of a rhetorical question. It doesn't make sense to make food and then find out the customer doesn't have money or has a stolen credit card or something.

It makes sense if you think you can get people to spend more that way.

Yeah, you're probably correct that that's the proper way it should be handled. And if you're going to "re-train" the manager, that should be the extent of it rather than some sensitivity bullshit. But from a practical standpoint- and I know you know this from working where the rubber meets the road- it's a pain in the ass to prepare stuff for guys you know don't intend to pay. And I have no doubt that manger knew those guys and it was not some case of mistaken identity where she offended "young well-established African Americans". I'd give her Employee of the Month for knowing the difference between her customers and the people trying to steal from the company.

It's just another example of all the problems that are caused by saying if you are a certain race you are automatically oppressed. I'm surprised at how many people don't think it's a big deal if someone gets falsely and very publicly accused of something terrible, gets fired from their job, and probably has a hard time getting another job as a result.

I know how much food and labor cost (thankfully I don't know what a wrongful termination lawsuit runs,) but I know what social media can do. Chipotle has more to lose on one front than the other. Especially Chipotle. Having said that, if these employees are being berated and insulted, then the police or somebody higher up in Chipotle should address this. And they should have cameras in the store.
