I'm not shaming her but when I worked in retail the policy was always if someone is trying to steal something, let them and call the cops afterwards.

Maybe it's changed in the past 25 years.

That's very possibly true. When I worked retail some 15+ years ago, we had to contact risk control.

That said, she was trying to do the right thing. This shouldn't be a discussion of the employee handbook. And beyond that, are we really discussing the employee handbook??? The stances some people take is just very telling in relation to their stances on other subjects. I'm pretty sure RPB would proclaim that he is always in favor of the working man, but when some girl tries to do what's right, she needs to shut the fuck up and read the employee handbook.

Exactly.

Is there some sort of newsletter that you sign up for where you can get all of these stories of white people being wronged by political correctness because this seems pretty stupid for a national story.

They tried to book Ali on Good Morning America to have him on as a victim of racism. This does provide a peak at how some of these "racist" incidents that get sensationalized really occur. This time Ali was dumb enough to not clean his social feeds bragging about stealing before making this play.

You were the person who had make sure everyone agreed that Roseanne's tweet was really racist and hurtful. Yet this story should not be news. Ok.
How twisted is your logic that fighting "oppression" means that you want people to make and throw out food rather than be an adult, and say since you claimed to have no money last time you now need to pay up front.

Roseanne is more relevant than this. There are attempts to steal like this all the time. Corporations have whole teams to help prevent it. No need for national news.

People say dumb things on Twitter all the time. There is a team at Twitter that monitors if it goes to far. No need for national news.

If that was me and there was a security camera I would call the cops after. Then trespass him. That way if he ever came back ,as soon as he walked through the door all she had to do would be to call the police and have his ass removed.

edit: I would have cleared it with my superior first.

Don't think it has. Saw this at the Walmart grocer down the street about 6 months ago. They like to post their security at the entrance/exit. I was exiting around the same time as a couple of young guys who decided that they were going to steal some beer.

Cheap ass High Life/Genuine draft type shit. As they were wallking past the security officer he attempted to say something. They ignored him and continued walking. As they walked they were brazen enough to crack open one of the beers at that.

After they exited the security officer explained to one of the people standing in the area that the higher ups instructed him and other security personnel not to confront thieves as they attempted to steal.

I've seen some Walmart workers slow the shoplifters down until the police got there. Years back I had buddies who worked in retail who would fight shoplifters just for the sport and pride for their business. Few stories of shoplifters being thrown through plate glass windows.

I mean, he's done it, he's a thief, but if he didnt ever do it there....was she right?

You watched the video. Didn't it seem like the manager and everyone else working there knew exactly who those guys were?

I did not watch the video.

Bossman frowns on stuff like that (any sound that is not market stuff or sports highlights)

Well, it comes off like everyone working there- including a big black dude- was like, "Not these assholes again." The manager wasn't rude at all. She kind of smiled at the jerkoff and said, "Hey, you guys always come in here without any money. We're not making any food unless you can pay." She knew who they were. And the guy's Twitter suggests she was right. Let's not make this a racial thing. Are we really going to take the side of some bum who is proud of dining and dashing over that of a hardworking Hispanic woman?

I certainly have not made anything racial here or advocated for the guy.

Im asking the question because it seems like people are making the leap from "this guy has dined and dashed somewhere at sometime" to "this guy dined and dashed at THIS Chipotle"

I think Telegram Sam is right about how she should have handled it.

You're absolutely advocating for the guy. Couching it in nonsensical questions and faux objectivity does not change this fact.

This new thing where you think you know what people are REALLY thinking is not working out for you. Its not even debatable. I literally am stating a clear position.

There's no faux objectivity. Ive stated my position, feel free to label me on one side or the other.

And what was non sensical? The question I had was whether the guy has done it at that Chipotle before. I think that's relevant.

The customer is a scumbag. 100%. She should file lawsuit against him.

I feel bad for the worker. My disagreement was with WfR seemingly implying her reaction was a smarter move than following protocol. I just think in a job like that (and most jobs really) you kinda just gotta do what you're told and many times it goes against common sense.

Which is part of the reason people don't typically have as much pride/loyalty in their employer anymore.

This is hilarious. You've completely misunderstood what I very clearly stated.

Im not celebrating it! I'm saying UNFORTUNATELY that's how things work.

I 100% wish we lived in a world she could make that call and not worry about losing her job (which I assume she needs)

I support the manager from a moral standpoint. But was it a wise move for her place at Chipotle? Probably not.

This falls into my category of sure I’ll eat it here. I would never eat it in Chicago or LA etc that has genuine burrito joints.

I don't know about Chipotle but some places make you cover the cost or write you up over it. I don't think they would have a written policy for a repeat offender or what to do if you recognized somebody because I wouldn't think it would be common.

Take some stills off the security footage and put them on the wall next to the checkout and publicly shame these savages.

Is it that hard to keep the food behind the counter and not hand it over until after its been paid for. I would much rather throw away or donate 40 dollars worth of food that wasn't paid for vs letting those shitheads walk with it for free.
