Honestly, this...last Christmas, my oldest got sick on our way to my in-laws on Christmas Eve...a quick turnaround, a run through the Jewels, and a trip back home led to one of the most relaxing Christmas Day's I've ever had.

This concern is currently causing some anxiety for me because the baby is right around the age where teething starts and our flights/hotel are already booked for traveling back to IL.

We made the decision several years ago that we were not traveling anywhere on Christmas or Thanksgiving. It was a great decision. The stress of packing and traveling with kids on holidays is crazy. It pissed off some family, but it was well worth it. Some don't seem to understand that cars/planes go both directions. People that bitch that you wont come see them are usually never willing to travel to see you either.

Funny thing about teething...my first born came in March of 15. October that year, we took a week long vacation in Florida. She cut 5 teeth that week...pleasant as could be.

We've flown with both kids as babies. Really hasn't been all that bad either time.

I imagine we will do something similar with Thanksgiving. Fortunately, we do not have to travel far, but there are still issues. Her older brother works until 6, and wants to have a fresh Thanksgiving dinner. I get it...it sucks to have to work every Holiday, but when we have a 2 or 3 year old, having Thanksgiving dinner at 7 or 8pm is just not going to be feasible. So he will have to deal with using a microwave, or we'll just have to do our own thing every other year.

(we alternate years on Thanksgiving. One year my side, one year her side)

Yeah that's going to be an experience with her because she is quite active. We'll just have to have a bottle ready.

Most likely Trump Derangement Syndrome.

No politics allowed at the family Christmas because most of my relatives are ultra conservative, and I am not.

Plus it's gotta be tough to default to a gif at the dinner table.

Actually, my brothers, my dad, and I have a group chat which veers off into gif territory quite often.

I don't see most people enough for them to annoy me throughout the year. I can make it through a night of anything. My BIL is a cop and is somehow a Trumpet and one of those black woke people who share fake information on Facebook. Except he's not on FB so he tells you in person. He's been around since I was like 4 so I avoid politics and just get him to tell the same on the job stories he's told a million times.

I generally like everyone with few exceptions so I more don’t like dealing with aftermath.

Have a huge family but am near the end of the line, which means that several of my brothers and sisters are in their early 60s, which in turn means that most of us are with their own families on Thanksgiving. Kind of a drag not to have everyone there, but it just doesn't happen any longer (except Christmas Eve). Apart from that, one brother-in-law is a drunk and so full of shit that I can't stand talking to him. Unfortunately, he is one of the small number (15-20) who shows up.

Gifs aren't for everybody. Some prefer inane conjecture to help them make it through each day.

A bottle, a chew toy, that gum-soothing gel, and some Benadryl. Edit: Though I remember hearing the gel was bad for them.

I think most people like gifs that are funny and relevant to the topic. As with most things, moderation is key to enjoyment.

There is one.

Hopefully she drinks too much and falls asleep for a few hours so the rest of us can get a break from her inane yammering. She did that on Christmas several years ago and it was the best gift any of us received that year.

Mother in law, sister in law.

Mother in law hates fun. Always wiping things down and putting coasters under my drinks to protect her horrible furniture. She's never experienced much different types of cuisine. So she turns her nose up on things like guacamole or cranberries that aren't in a can. Also, does not drink.

Sister in law repeats everything you say but words it slightly different. Her own thoughts are awful. Compares her kids to our kid. Her kids are annoying and cry a lot because she ignores them. She also does not drink.

I'm hoping I'll be drunk enough and watching football that I can ignore them.

Like others have said i'm sure if you asked them their answer would be me, so fuck it

Oh wow. That sounds awful. Dusting and using coasters, man you've got it rough.
