The woman in front of me was smokin', and the cashier was trying his absolute best to flirt with her and she was having none of it. Her transaction was complete, and he commented to me how smitten he was with her. I put my two items on the counter, and he says my total, $8 and something. He was so flustered and awe struck from the hot girl that he only scanned the wine. I pay the total he tells me, take both of my items, and walk out.

Mr. Fancy-pants over here

would have raised the total to $8.50 with the beer

I was having breakfast at Lou Mitchell's at the counter and sat next to a young hipster couple who told the waitress they were going to split an omelet. After a short wait, the server brought them their food. The omelet they ordered had been cut in two and placed on separate plates (if you've eaten at Lou's, you know the portions are huge, so it almost looked like two full entrees). I thought the waitress had done her job well and was trying to be accommodating.

Not only did the couple think otherwise, they were seriously offended that the waitress had the food put on separate plates. They went on about how they wanted to pick the food from the same plate because it was more intimate and that the waitress was ruining their experience. Although the waitress didn't not want to remake the food, they refused to accept it and it was ultimately sent back to be redone.

Was the waitress wrong to assume they wanted separate plates? Was the couple wrong for sending it back?

No, the waitress wasn't wrong for providing separate plates and pre-cutting the single serving into two portions. Total asshole move to bring it up to the waitress AND to then require the food be re-served. That's something you wait until you get back in the car to say "I would have liked this to be different, but of well I'm not a psycho about it."

If the waitress was a Millennial, she should know that norms of behavior and language just don't apply to human beings. What a fucking monster.

Anyone else in history: No.

Edit: Sorry to generalize about Millennials, but goddamn.

That couple is awful. You're the asshole for not telling them to fuck off knowing the waitress wanted to but wasn't able to.

I think you qualify as being a bad guy for going to Binny’s for High Life and wine and taking up space on line for those of us buying real beer.

This couple would have found much more sympathy at CFMB had they been Somalis who tried to steal the omelette.

You're the asshole for bringing low quality wine to a party.

"You know what this party needs? Cooking sherry!"

I thought Cooking Sherry was the broad's name in front of him.

The waitress was in her right to slide half of the omelet back onto the other plate and take the now empty plate away.

I have chipped in up to $5 on multiple occasions just to avoid the person ahead of me in line digging through their pockets or purse to come up with exact change. Just paying it forward.

I wouldn't call it projection. Some of us were simply puzzled by guys who would normally be strong supporters of the workingman (woman) suddenly spouting corporate jargon.

See, that's not what I saw at all. Do you really think anyone was AGAINST the worker?

The people saying what she should have done were saying what she should have done for her sake, not to say she fucked up or was wrong. That was my take.

I thought this is where that story was going.

I pride myself in good line scouting. Besides the obvious of looking how much each person in line has in their cart, you need to look at the cashier to get an idea if they are fast. Skinny women in their 30s and 40s are usually the best as long as they are not talkers. And if you're buying alcohol you always have to steer clear of kids under 21. But even if you scout well, you can still lose. I was at the Jewels yesterday and I picked the best line but when I was next up, the bagger left to help another line. So I not only had to wait for the ringing up and paying but I had to wait for the cashier to bag the items.

DAC, you know what else pisses me off? The bagger leaves to another line and the cashier is scanning stuff, so I start bagging. Then I get the stink eye because I'm bagging. I'm just trying to get in and out as fast as possible... it would be great if there was a bagger here, but there isn't, so I'm taking care of things myself. It is not my problem that you want to understaff.

Bring back the self checkout.

The waitress went above and beyond. Though she probably should have asked them if they wanted a second plate.

File this in the "No good deed goes unpunished" bin.

I thought splitting an entree means it comes on two plates unless otherwise specified. I thought this was universally understood.

Splitting is often a separate selection and adds a couple bucks to the order. Both plates come with their own sides.
