I believe this is Maddon's last year with the Cubs no matter what.

This will be Theo's 8th season with his stated intent to be there no more than 10.

It's never been reported anywhere and I have no advanced knowledge of the situation but I think Theo is intending to leave or take a different position at the end of 2019. He told Joe that and said that he would not sign him to an extension because he does not want to hamstring the next management team with his decisions. Hoyer will move to VP and hire a GM who will then hire a manger.
