has the technology helped w/ freezing pipes there?

Never had a snow blower. the city would do a great job of shoveling the streets. I use to just shovel the driveway manually.

Snow day tomorrow. I know it is supposed to snow 7 inches between 10pm and 5am, but it's still weird when they cancel and there is no snow on the ground.

School already canceled.

It's manageable out there at this point but I'm sure it will be much worse in the morning. They haven't even finished construction on some of the expressways. Those will be a nightmare tomorrow. How are they going to get the plows through there?

I call FAKE NEWS. Not a lick of snow yet for me and it's almost 10:30. My zip code calls for 5-8". I predict 3 looking at the radar

Think about the fires up in California. Create some rain in those parts and it would have helped. Heat up the chicago area maybe 10 degrees and you only have rain instead of snow.

What?

I'm not going to read it but I'll guess it is about that array in Alaska that controls all the weather in the Northern Hemisphere.

No it's not that silly thing.

It's technology developed by the military but can't use it because they think it's dangerous as a weapon.

Squirrel - are you a farmer now? I am interested in where you live and how you came into farming. Seems like you were a city guy and I guess moved out to rural Illinois?

Yes.. how? How did I end up here? I asked myself that very question many times today.

I don’t live as far south as Scooter.

Do you like it there? Do you work still or retired? Meaning do you have to commute up to the city for work?

I've been thinking for a long time moving to somewhere like this. But maybe in Iowa since taxes are less than Illinois. Seems like simple living which is fine by me. As long as I have internet connection and the mailman delivers packages there it'll work. Just the weather in winter will suck.

Keep in mind, toothless Samoan methheads will be few and far between in flyover country.

Trashy white ones are abundant, however.

Shots fired at Krazy Ivan.

The tape measure indicated about 7"-8" a little bit ago. Probably about that much snow outside too.

I wandered outside with the geriatric dog. She did a better job avoiding drifts than I did. Judging from ground cover we have gotten somewhere between 2 and 83 inches of snow.

Roughly 6 inches here in Kenosha. Took me 45 minutes to clear a space wide enough to get my wife's car out, I'll have plenty of work ahead of me
this afternoon. Snowblower not ultra effective with this kind of snow but better than shoveling. I shoveled the end out by hand. Snowplow got me
pretty good. Having an 80 foot driveway really sucks sometimes, especially when it becomes like a chess match figuring out where to throw the snow.
Got into work at my regular time so overall it wasn't that bad.

Atlanta is 50 and breezy. Schools canceled for fear caused by the northern snow.

had to drive home in it last night and everything from randall road to orchard to 88 to kingery highway were a total mess. a few times i had some close calls by being either pushed off the road by a semi or getting blinded by snow from passing SUV's. a typical 45-48 minute commute took over an hour and a half and visibility was terrible.

we're allowed to come in late today to work but i don't have any idea what the roads are like right now. but it is still snowing out.

Trying to decide if it's worth it to take the jalopy out on the 20-some mile drive (DeKalb to Geneva) that's virtually all on Route 38 open roads with nothing to stop the 20+ mph sustained winds (per WGN). I don't want to be a puss, but otoh there's much more to potentially lose than to gain.

Not that bad around here, but it made me laugh to see CPS students try to convince the CPS to cancel school:

Lake Geneva Schools had the same attitude, but also many dirt roads and hills.

50 minutes from Gurnee to Wheeling this morning...the only road I drove on that had been plowed was the one in my neighborhood. The minute I hit a main road, it barely looked like it had been touched.

Bleh.
