They sold high on Narvaez. This would seem to be a sign that they are going in on 2019, making this move for their likely closer whom they only control in 2019 and 2020. Also, might be a sign they are about to move into the Realmuto sweepstakes. A package of Basabe, Collins, and maybe Dunning along with shipping away 1 year of Wellington should get that done.

Or they know closers are always a valuable commodity in July and are looking to flip him (Pronouns, Pal!).

That could very well be it too. Odd way to get to a flip. Feel like there is something corresponding to this.

There might be a corresponding move, might not. Hahn doesn't even know. He's just out there winging it every offseason.

were all the free agent relievers that didn't cost a player already signed?

They need more than one reliever and a guy who won’t be part of the future is a small price to pay.

would have liked to have smith around right now. He'd be a perfect insurance piece as a backup should Zavala or Collins not be able to make the team out of spring training

Yep, you've got a guy who can actually hit but instead you're waiting for the next Mike Colbern or Joel Skinner. So dumb.

Sox philosophy: Get rid of the guys who can play so you can wait for guys who probably can't. Busted rebuild.

I’d like to have Smith around too. I think Collins will play the first half of the season in triple A. Hopefully Castillo plays good enough to get moved at the deadline.

I have no idea what the thought is here. That he overachieved? Selling "high" here means getting a middle reliever. Great.

The Sox will never be good again in our lifetimes. I resigned myself to that fact a couple years ago but still get sucked in for a few weeks every April.

Yep. Opening day was pretty great last year. Then the season happened.

I think they just couldn't believe they got as lucky as they did. But you have to get lucky with guys like that if you aren't going to have the busted rebuild you have. So you gave away a top offensive catcher who never strikes out for a reliever who walks the whole fuckin' world. Now what? When Zach Collins gets on at a similarly anemic clip as Tim Anderson about 20% of your offense is broken as you start each game.

Motherfucker. I could have gone another six months without hearing/reading "Tim Anderson." Now I'm pissed. Thanks a lot Jorr.

And fuck you too, Hahn.

Well, at least he just cut Matt "No Bat" Davidson. That's a positive.

A dime a dozen reliever for a not a dime a dozen .366 OBP catcher. I see a problem here with identifying value.

You are really comparing a guy who played half a season to a proven high leverage RP?

Why is everyone referring to Narvaez as a catcher?

Hey Marty!

He's admittedly not Johnny Bench, but the Sox don't have any catchers who will get on base like he does.
