I have vague memories of my cousins taking my brother and me to an indoor amusement park where they won us s couple stuffed snakes. My mom tells me it was old Chicago so I must of been like 4 when it happened. I’m not sure which of my memories are foggiest, Old Chicago, the carter administration, or the night before my wedding.

All fogworthy, DS. Old Chicago closed up for good in 1980 if that helps jog a brain cell or two.

It was probably 79. Just a hunch as the girls would have been old enough to take us vs their brother who was probably busy working.

1979 was towards the ugly end. Shops closed up, attendance tanked, etc. Merchants who were still open for business were getting gouged by management over every dollar they earned.

After Old Chicago closed there were MANY rumors about what it would be used for... movie studio, an actual shopping mall without the amusement park - but my favorite was it would be converted into a large jail/penitentiary.

I have vague memories of that place. I remember being underwhelmed. My favorite amusement park was Playland at 79th and Harlem (I think).

Going to Riverview and riding the great roller-coasters. Loved the Wild Mouse the best.

Playing 3 or 4 pick-up baseball games a day at the park or at an old field next to a junk yard during the summer. Sort of like the movie Sand-lot.

Going fishing with my father.

I spent most of my summers here on the farm with my grandparents- loved sitting and listening to an afternoon Cub's game or evening Tiger's game with Grandpa on the AM pocket radio after a hot day making hay. Or, a rainy Saturday morning making bread from scratch with Grandma.

Riverview? You are definitely one of our more seasoned members, Hawk.

Here is one that my friends and I would play which you think would be pretty boring after the first time:
