I chose Old Milwaukee back in DC because it made me feel closer to home

I started collecting beer cans like every other red-blooded American boy in the early seventies, and after picking up every maggot-filled empty from the ditches in our neighborhood, I graduated to buying fresh beers in the cans and having my Dad drink them, a task he was all up for. Of course, I insisted he poke holes in the bottom of the cans to save the pull tab. He got to sample quite a few odd brews, and we even started to use vacation time to visit breweries. The first trip was to Saginaw/Frankenmuth MI, where we hit the Carlings and Frankemuth breweries. Dad always thought the Black Label was the best he had of all the factory tours, of course they had no limit, either. We followed with Pabst, Miller and Schlitz in Milwaukee, Old Style/Special Export in LaCrosse and Bud in St. Louis. There was even one in Hawaii.

By sophomore year in high school, a classmate's parents owned a bar/restaurant, and he would set a 12 of LITE out back for us to grab on his way out for the night. In college, I was paying to buy, so the cheapest was Altes at $5.29 per case with $1.20 deposit on the short bottles in a waxed cardboard box. Then came the Schlitz and Milwaukees Best.

Now, I like the $0.10/oz. deal on Rolling Rock draft at the local sports bar, or the blue collar dive in my hometown is proud of serving PBR on tap for over 80 years.

still have two huge boxes of old beer cans in the attic, getting less and less valuable by the day. no doubt.

I know it got a brief mention earlier, but sixers of Stroh's @ $2.10 (?) from the Illini Inn got me through a drippy fall and cold spring in ChamBana long ago.

PBR always gave me bad gas and even worse headaches for reasons unknown.
High Life in cans or 40's is where it's at. Or was. Or still might be?

Used to enjoy the Classic Dark, but it wasn't often readily available out south.

My dad drank Old Milwaukee and would let us have a pull when we were little kids. I didn't start drinking until I was 17 or so. By then I just
kind of got sucked into the marketing and when the choice was Bud or Miller I vacillated between the two. Either regular Budweiser or Miller
Genuine Draft. In college it was purely a choice of economics. Quantity over quality which usually lead to Milwaukee's Best Ice which back
in the late 90s was running about $10-12 a case if I remember correctly. If we were feeling crazy we would buy our version of old school/craft
beer back then by picking up Strohs or Coors Banquet. After college I fell primarily in the Bud Light category.

I have High-Life in the fridge currently. I like PBR as well. Especially in bottles.

My dad gave us little juice glasses of his beer when we were little if we asked. Wine too but he mostly did it to show us we wouldn’t like it. He was correct. I don’t think I really ever enjoyed a beer until I was in my thirties. Did jack and coke or various vodka or tequila in 20’s but beer was only drank if it was very cold. I remember having to buy for parties and everyone would get key light and I would spend the extra 2 bucks for a case of Budweiser or banquet beer. Just save me 3 I’d say and give the rest to the host or whomever tickles your fancy.

My dad and his fraternity brothers would drive from Iowa City to Colorado to pick up coors back in the 60’s. The beer might not of been worth it but he says it’s a great memory.

Regular Budweiser and Coors are fine beers, as well....especially while being out.

Old style tastes fine but the kreusening is asking for a headache.

Had Olympia as a teen. Haven't seen since I don't think.

My grandfather and I were betting on drag races at the old U.S. 30, so mine was Country Club malt liquor. Fortunately he always bought high quality coolers and more ice than anyone else thought he needed.

I was 4 or 5 and drank some beer that was left out. It wasn't bad. After fishing I'm sure my grandfather left beer out because he knew my brother, cousin and I would take a sip.

Looking back on it, it's funny just how subtly the older folks were bringing us into the fold.

Hamms and Old Style were the beers my grandmothers drank so those were naturally my first as well.

Had Hamms a few weeks ago and it's still fine.

Need it from a can though. Bottle sucked.

Went through a lot of those High Life pony bottles playing quarters in HS.

My best friend's older brothers and their buddies drank Old Style...so we drank what they drank up at the Great Lakes Dragway.

In college in DC we drank lots of Rolling Rock and Busch.

One summer back in the 80s, Paul's Liquors in Waukegan must have bought a truck full of this stuff...i think they were selling it for $5 a case in cans. We stocked up.

Had one a couple months ago. It wasn't as good as the can.
