I haven't checked in with White Sox news all day, and after reading this thread it sounded like the White Sox reacquired Todd Ritchie or Scott Linebrink. However, the mlbtraderumors description of the guy doesn't sound that bad: "[f]rom 2016-18, Colome has pitched to a pristine 2.78 ERA with with 9.5 K/9, 2.8 BB/9, 0.8 HR/9 and a 47 percent ground-ball rate. Along the way, he’s racked up 96 saves and been named to the American League All-Star team on one occasion. He can either close games or function as a high-end setup man for the Sox for the next two seasons." They need bullpen help. While Narvaez, put together a quietly productive season at the plate, as long as they've acquired Colome with an eye towards keeping him as opposed to flipping him it sounds like there's some hope here.

I'm contrasting them. Position and value. Relief pitchers should have their own union considering the trash heap of bodies MLB has produced. Lefthanded hitting catcher Narvaez will still be raking long after Colome's arm has fallen off from 70 appearances a year.

JORR we'll have to get to a game next year. Quite the experience! Narvaez made 1993 Carlton Fisk look like Johnny Bench. (I forgot Fisk played until he was 45!!! until I checked BREF.)

Pierzynski wasn't Jim Sundberg either but I'd take him behind the plate over Ron Karkovice. They made a mistake with Narvaez and one that will be stuck in our faces for years to come as Collins struggles to hit his weight and we go through scrap heap catchers like a hooker goes through birth control pills. But I predicted it way back here:

If Narvaez was merely a below average defensive catcher I could see sticking with him, but he's awful. I thought Rodon was going to have a breakdown when he caught him or rather attempted to catch him. If they are going to develop pitching I'd prefer a pitch framer/defensive type catcher. Find a CF'er who can hit to help make up the difference.

Narvaez-for-Colome was a big shovel full of dirt on the grave of Zach Burdi's career. The velocity reports out of him are four alarm. You know how you always hear a statistic like "85% of pitchers make a full recovery from Tommy John!" and its meant to reassure you that it may be a while, but eventually the player will bounce back. Well there's still that 15% that dont that nobody seems to want to account for. Burdi looks like one of those.

I have no idea what they are going to do at catcher now, though I suspect this was done to prevent a redundant lefty platoon at the position with Collins.

Then they got rid of the wrong lefty. I'll go on record. Within the next five seasons they will not have a catching tandem that is more productive offensively than Narvaez/Smith.

I hope the plan is to get enough production out of the OF and corner infielders that they feel comfortable with defense-first catchers who are offensively mediocre. We'll see.

The problem is I don't believe Collins is that guy. His absolute best case is to be Narvaez with more power.

Narvaez with more power is worthy of DH ab's.

Sure. But I said that's Collins best possible case. I don't see it as likely. No way I think he will get on base the way Narvaez has already proven he can.

Maybe the bigger issue is, how the Sox view catcher as a whole. They had a really good framer in Flowers, and they let him go. Which I think was part of the reason Sale went crazy. But letting Kevin Smith go, who was also a good framer. I am fine with the trade, but it just seems like the opposite of what they are trying to do.

The Narvaez trade was a blow to my confidence in Hahn. .366 OBP lefthanded hitting catchers don't grow on trees. Yes, I understand he's a poor catcher, I understand he's not good with the young hurlers, but what I also understand is OTHER teams would value him. OTHER teams always think they can fix guys. I don't care that they traded him, but a relief pitcher?

Hahn better have something good up his sleeve because Collins has 2 years worth of work to do behind the plate and even then it's iffy. Plus, look at his face. D-u-m-b is written all over it.

It was A blow. Every move since the impatient Sale trade I was ecstatic about. I understand in the scheme of things this trade is minor, but I am surprised at his undervaluation of his own player.

After the shit storm in spring training with LaRoche and the SaleScissorhands stunt, I really believe the order from above was to move him for the best deal available. What an outfit ... smh.
