"Valley Winter Song" by Fountains of Wayne isn't a Christmas song, but it's close enough, it's a terrific song, and I've spent plenty of Christmases in the "New England Town" referenced in the lyrics, so it always shows up on my Christmas playlists.

wow that's hilarious; i just added that song to my "ultimate christmas" playlist a few years ago.

a new favorite overtly christian song i really like is "prepare him room" by sovereign grace. i first heard it at a christmas concert at a church with my mom and it was sung as a duet. since then, i've been a bigfan.

It's been added to the Comcast seasonal music channel rotation this year. Great song. I had never heard it before this season...not sure why it suddenly made an appearance.

I always thought it was interesting that Frank Sinatra never had a "signature" XMas song like other crooners of the era.

But, I think "The Christmas Waltz" is underrated. He nails that.

I'm a standard -

Nat - Christmas Song
Bing - White Christmas
Elvis - Blue Christmas
Gore - Green Christmas

...kind of guy.

I'll also throw in for O Holy Night and Ave Maria from the Harry Connick, Jr. Xmas album which is a very good album.

My now wife dragged me to a concert of his in 92 at Poplar Creek. It started a streak of outdoor concerts she bought tickets for that were shortened by monsoons or freezing our asses off.

You were 17 in 1992?

I thought you were a much older man.

I suppose there's no reason for me to assume you are a man either. I need to open up my mind to thought.

Yes but I tell people I’m 20 years older than that so they say “Damn, you look good for 63”. I fear the day they respond, “yeah, that’s what I figured.”

until it backfires, that's a good strategy....i may start doing this, as in "I can lift a lot for a 68 year-old man."

Also, "Greensleeves" (with the lyrics from "What Child Is This?"). I think the original is about a hooker.

TSO has some good Christmas tunes, too. I like the one from the Regular Show and the one based on Pachlebel's "Canon."

This is sort of like a Plate O' Shrimp. I had never heard that song before you posted it, but yesterday evening I was listening to LSUG in my car and the song came on. It wasn't this version though. It was Robbie Robertson solo and not nearly as good.

This is not only my favorite Christmas song, but arguably one of my top 5 from Run DMC. Right behind Rock Box, King Of Rock, Peter Piper, and My Adidas.

I can listen to The Beach Boys Christmas album pretty much the whole way through.

A little known Christmas classic from one of the more mysterious crews that ever existed, a one-hit wonder on the B-Boy Records label:

Its good, kinda gimmicky and just not in the top 3.

Christmas rappin by Kurtis Blow is great, too

the instrumental orchestral version of Sleigh Ride says Christmas to me more than any other song. Love those whip cracks and the clop-clopping hooves. and the trumpet whinny at the end, just a great song.

The bassline alone murders the next closest contender.

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - The entire Phil Spector xmas album is pretty much all you need, but Darlene Love takes this song to another place.
Fairytale of New York - Pogues
Back Door Santa - Clarence Carter

My favorite one that we had to sing in church was "O Come, O Come Emmanuel." I wish I heard more commercial versions of it, though I like the version by that wacko Finnish chick.
