There are some of the absolute masters who have NetFlix and HBO specials then there are all of the rest. And of the NetFlix and HBO specials I would say maybe the top third are really funny throughout.

Listening to Gabriel Iglesias talk about how much he loved a sandwich because he's fat is... well let's just say lowest common denominator. You tell better jokes here.

I wonder if these "masters" started their careers with small club shows where they weren't very good at first. And then, stay with me here, they kept practicing by doing more shows to improve their acts.

America has no shortage of talentless dreamers spending mom & dads money to totally devote their 20's to something they will just never be good at even slightly.

Heres an idea to all stand-up wannabes out there:

Now substitute most "liberal arts majors" for "dreamers".

If the movie 'The Purge' ever became real life, I bet this fucking annoying ball of stanky armpit and leg hair would be in big trouble.

I'd fuck her no doubt but I hate her so much it hurts.

Definitely afraid of women.

She undoubtedly has literally thousands of soyboy orbiters who grovel to her stupid far left bullshit but at the end of the day she is being bedded by some Wall Street Trump voter/Proud Boy.

Cute little JAPs like her have lifestyle standards and VICE isn't paying those kind of bills.

I didn't even recognize that she was one half of the that NYT piece about how Twitter isn't real life. LOL, do I even need to say it?

Yeah I couldn't believe two private-school girls like Bari Weiss and Eve Peyser would ever find common ground

There’s a lot of bad comedy and comedians out there which makes it hard to really enjoy the medium lately but it is still the hardest thing to do when you’re serious about it and go into the depths of hell to pursue it.

Other than Carlin, Rock, Murphy, Chapelle and a dozen other guys I agree. 99% of " Comedy" ain't funny. If I watched anyone of these dogshit " comedians" on comedy central for a few hours..I wouldn't even grin let alone laugh.

I would say that stand-up comedy has never been more thoughtful or agreeable than it is today. Lots of people are making very thoughtful observations that we can agree with. Whether they're funny, well...

The worst is going to a douchey comedy club where they act like it's your privelege to be watching them. Bitch I paid, and you're making the same jokes my grandparents would tell me when I was 12.

I remember one comic got piss drunk on stage and started freestyling. That was hilarious. He gave zero fucks. Don't remember his name

Consider working under the stage name of Zim Prosecco.

Bill Burr on Hot Ones -- his face gets redder than Gruden. Quick aside -- Hot Ones is fantastic. It is an interview format where they eat hotter and hotter wings during the interview, if you aren't familiar with it.

It really isn't the hardest thing to do but there is probably 50% of the population that would not have the ability to even get up on that stage and speak, let alone make people laugh.

Some of the ones like Seinfeld or Carlin I think illustrate it is not super hard but you have to have a knack. Some just have a way top deliver about anything and be funny. As you said half the world would freeze or never try.

try going on stage on a weeknight at 1:30am when there's 2 people there who don't give a damn about your set, and you've got to go to work at 7am the next morning, and you don't even really get paid until you start going on the road (meaning giving up your career), living in hotels. and even then, your career can be over at any moment. the only thing comparable is a traveling salesman. and even then you at least work for a company that's paying a salary.

there's a reason stand ups are fucked up people.

Unless you're really really good, you suck. That's a tough gig. More power to 'em just making the attempt.

Take the inverse of this statement and it would be true - Stand-up has actually hit its nadir in recent times, and it is truly pathetic.

Absolutely nothing good can come out of the PC-crowd shaming comedians into Sesame Street sets.

The fact that people sitting on their asses and hands are telling the people on the stage what they can and cannot say is completely ridiculous. You can't tell the painter how to paint and then fool yourself into believing that you have a true work of art.

The most talked-about stand-up act right now is a fat sexless lump from Australia crying about how cruel people are, for whatever it's worth.
