I was told yesterday of one high school team that requires every parent to volunteer at one event. The thing I found strange was they also required them to show the day before for training and purchase the food and beverages to be sold the next day by the parents with their own money.

How common is this? I have never worked at school that required anything more than volunteering to work a concession stand etc. Never heard of the parents having to purchase the food they were volunteering to sell.

No idea but I assume the team since I know of another sport at that school which does not do that nor have any parent requirements. Our school keeps zero dollars from admissions to sporting events (all goes to district office) and concession money now goes to the sports booster club. In the past what ever team ran the concession stand kept 50 percent of the profits and the athletic department bought the food and kept other 50 percent.

Most high schools with booster clubs in this area (Illinois Valley) request that parents help out when and where they can.

All proceeds from ticket sales, concessions, swag / gear go to booster treasurer (usually a volunteer parent who is a bank vice president, etc.) and are distributed between each entity and its needs.
