These tech companies are flying very close to the sun. This reminds me of the early 20th Century. People are pissed, and they are the new monopolies. Pitchforks could be coming soon.

Maybe you have a point. Way back then people thought the Rockefellers and other oil and train barons were really cool at first too.

In making a deal with Amazon, the mayor and the governor negotiated behind closed doors and created a process that prevents the City Council from having any power to amend or torpedo the agreement. City and state officials provided detailed information to the company and agreed to sign a nondisclosure agreement that required them to alert Amazon every time a news reporter made a public information request about the deal.

Who is Amazon so scared of that they’re hiring lobbyists to keep things going? AOC

AOC and others doing work.

Amazon.com is reconsidering its plan to bring 25,000 jobs to a new campus in New York City following a wave of opposition from local politicians, according to two people familiar with the company's thinking.

Don’t do it you turd.

"Gov. Pritzker immediately called Amazon earlier this morning to make a full-throated pitch to attract these good-paying jobs to Illinois and assure them that they would have a strong partner in the governor’s office,” said a high-ranking administration source, speaking on background.

NYC politicians asked why billions are being given to Amazon so Amazon has thrown a hissy fit and taken their ball home.

No more HQ2 in NYC. Good for New York.

Cannot negotiate with them. Cannot shop with them. Cannot stream with them! Can't do it.

Except for the chumps who recently bought real estate in Queens, thinking they had struck gold.

A lot of guys are choking on property in Washington Park after the Olympics went elsewhere. I wonder if the Obama Library can save them.

According to a mutual acquaintance, the same was true in South Shore as well. There as here, I doubt if it does anything except serve the U of C' s aims, good and bad.

They should've put that monstrosity just west of the park on the blocks of vacant land and adjacent to the Green line L.

Story I read was some, beloved by the left, greenies have got a judge to disallow the locations to save green space or parks or something. Ironically.

As opposed to parts of land that has been public parkland since the Columbian Exposition. And lagoons before that.

I still think it would have been good for the city

Would the racetrack I want to build on free land given to me by Rahm in the South Loop benefit the City? I have my plan ready to go. All I need is access to the TIF money.

Not only is Alexa listening when you speak to an Echo smart speaker, an Amazon employee is potentially listening, too.

Amazon (AMZN) employs a global team that transcribes the voice commands and feeds them back into the software to help improve Alexa's grasp of human speech so it can respond more efficiently in the future, Bloomberg reports.
Amazon reportedly employs thousands of full-time workers and contractors in several countries, including the United States, Costa Rica and Romania, to listen to as many as 1,000 audio clips in shifts that last up to nine hours. The audio clips they listen to were described as "mundane" and even sometimes "possibly criminal," including listening to a potential sexual assault.

We can certainly trust these companies to respect your data.
