I would prefer Machado if I were the GM of the Sox or Cubs.

Harper is Be Best. The next manager will love him as will all the amigos. It's beisbol.

And Harper knows Cominsky Field would be nice to play in. His buddy, [deleted], told him.

Throw him the money in a Julio Cruz type contract and let inflation be your friend.

If those other outfielders in waiting are that good then trade them.

True.

Also, if Jerry got Baines in the HoF, this is by definition realistic.

Plus, Harper's got great hair. I remember when I was his age, I had that fullness and bounce as well.

I wonder if the pitch is "you can live in Chicago without the spotlight that comes with being a Cub"

The pitch is, "We will give you 400MILLION to come play for our sorry ass team and let you opt out after year 2 and sign with the Cubs when they have more money to give you. Until then just help us sell tickets and hide all failed prospects that have come through our system the last couple years."

After two years, why would he leave the better Chicago team to go to a middling and likely rebuilding team in the same city?

Boras fingerprints all over this. Yeah, sure, Sox are the frontrunners. Did the Dodgers get the message?

Because they already have a prima donna latin player with Puig?

I do not think that the Dodgers liked Machado when they had him. Bad locker room guy and bad team mate.

So you think that no Hispanics are prima donnas? How about SamME Soso? He wrote the book on being a prima donna.

There is no way to read my post and infer that. Weird response.

I think something got lost in translation here. I heard that same thing, but Harper is not in Mexico and Delmonico tweeted that.

I'm working under the assumption Harper is signing with the Sox and will be disappointed if its not true

I'm not sure the reality of Harper is as good as the myth of him

He's a left handed power hitting outfielder who will have a high obp and 30 homers at the very least.

That's pretty valuable even if he's not the MVP 2015 version

If I'm giving an outfielder $40M a year that guy should hit for a great average and be a really good defensive player.

Good thing he is probably going to be getting around $35M.

I'm really struggling with the idea of either one of these. Obviously both of them are insanely talented and make the team instantly better. Still....a team or teams will pay both of them. The Sox signing one of them could pretty much rule out any kind of payroll flexibility and that doesn't end well. Someone on Bleacher Report likened it to the Rangers signing Alex Rodriguez....it was a fair point.

It would be nice to see the trend of half-assed FA signing finally get tossed...I just am more concerned with them winning. If signing one of these makes that happen....awesome.

Then there's which one do you prefer....also torn on that one. First thought is Machado is the more difficult player to replace at a more important position on the field...I did, though, get the same bad teammate vibe from him....I don't know.

I still don't think either are happening Feels too easy / convenient goes against history.

I hear ya, but I dont really think of it like that. Im not looking to have the team with the best value contracts. If I gotta overpay a bit to win, that's fine.

looking at his record, I don't think you can just plug in 30 HR each year. He's surprisingly light in that stat
