Fans, as if the Bears don't have enough question marks, I have just learned that Mark Bradley was a no-show at Halas Hall today getting his knee scoped. Bradley might not be ready for Training Camp in Bourbonnais, and his latest setback comes at a time where he's supposed to be the new #1 receiver on the depth chart, while Devin Hester looked tentative at best trying to run the correct route, and two veterans in Marty Booker & Brandon Lloyd that are questionable at best. I don't know about you, but this is one position that is really paper thin on this roster with the news about Bradley's latest injury.

Right, because Mark Bradley really strikes fear into opposing defenses..

You're preaching to the choir. Also, Bradley is probably due for an injury settlement.

When I saw the title of this thread, I though I had clicked on Douchebag of the Week forum somehow.

Im not sure what you guys are talking about. Adding Booker, Bennet, and Lloyd, in addition to a #1 like Bradley and a soon to be Steve Smith in Hester, you are looking at the deepest WR corps. in the NFC.

Mark Bradley was supposed to be #1 on the depth chart?
This must be the same chart that had Lance Briggs 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart last year. Lovie Smith just likes fucking with everyone, he knows Mark Bradley is at best his #4 and at worst on IR all year.

When the Bears let Bernard Berrian go to the division rival Minnesota Vikings in free agency and cut Muhsin Muhammad in a salary cap move, I was puzzled when they announced Mark Bradley as the #1 receiver given his injury history and his lack of production when he was on the field. Though Marty Booker is considered an upgrade over Muhammad, the jury is out on Brandon Lloyd on the NFL level. He rarely played or produced in San Francisco and in Washington, and the book on Brandon is this could possibly be his last chance to prove himself as an NFL receiver. We also saw very little of Mike Haas, who never got much of a chance to suit up after making the roster last preseason, but was a constant question with the likes of Doug Buffone, Ed O'Bradovich and Zach Zaidman among other guys at 670 "The SCORE" last season when this team was lucky to win 7 games with very little offense.

Rosenbloom has a great quote on his blog, I aint sure whether it is sad or funny:

the Cubs have a better wideout who's pitching in Double-A.

Bradley sucks ass. If he's not 100% by pre-season I'll be pissed if he takes up a roster spot.

Aside from one game when he had a 60 yard play he's sucked.

Here's how things looked after the recent OTA's:

Brad Biggs wrote:
Devin Hester was getting the ball all over the field in practice -- deep, short, out, across the middle. Brandon Lloyd looked to be headed in the right direction in a career-saving effort. On Sunday, he made a nice over-the-shoulder catch for a touchdown ahead of cornerback Corey Graham.

''But the best player for us probably out on the field has been 81 [Rashied Davis],'' Drake said. ''He's quicker, he's faster, he's stronger. He puts more fear in them -- you go ask those guys on defense who puts fear inside them.''

How bad are your receivers if Rashied Davis is the team's best player at that position?

Seriously, this is making it much more difficult for me to stick with my Bears make the playoffs as a wild card prediction.

The good news is that Davis only has to have a slight impact to improve the receiving core.

I'm predicting the ugliest Bear passing game since Mike Phipps was hooking up with Ricky Watts and Brian Baschnagel.

I'm going to assume Booker will be decent. After that, maybe one of the rookies can do something? Will Greg Olsen show that he's more than just a really good practice player?

I think Booker could be adequate.
Olsen has the potential to be very effective but is still unproven.

Lloyd's best hope I think is that he would be adequate.
Same can be said for Davis, Hass, Bradley, Monk and any rookie they have on board.

Olsen and Hester (and possibly Bradley) are the only two that have the potential to be above average and none have proven to be so yet.

So, let's all have some Barack Obama sized, audacious HOPE and maybe things will work out.

Not to open another can of worms, but I've seen Kyle Orton use the TE a lot in the time I've been following him. He was great at it in college. He wasn't great at anything passing wise so far in the NFL so I don't know how it will transfer over.

K so they have about 5 WR's that best case scenario are good #3's. Hopefully Williams and Forte work out or else this could be very, very bad. Like 12 ppg bad unless the defense returns to 2006 form and helps provide some scoring and good field position.

Booker will end up getting 500-600 yards receiving. Not terrible, but really bad for a number one.

Hopefully Olsen and Clark can get another 600 combined at least.

Then everyone else gets about 600 combined. Hopefully Hester can provide a decent deep threat that at least causes defenses to be unable to stack up the run. I don't ever expect him to be a great WR, but the threat of him getting behind the defense should be good for something.

Not a great offense, but adequate enough. The Bears want to be a running team anyways.

The Bears will not average 12 ppg, but I bet they have at least a few games with a score of 10-6.

It's clear the key to the offense is run blocking and Benson or Forte playing well.

I would say best case -

Booker could be a low-end #2 if he's still got anything left.

Davis an average to good #3.

Bradley could, emphasis on could, be a solid #2 but will likely never be or never be healthy.

Hester could be a top notch #2 but I don't think would ever be reliable enough in his routes to be a #1.

Haas, I know nothing about other than every meatball who saw him catch an out pattern in Bourbonnais thinks he's Jerry Rice.

Monk, has great height, weight, and speed but so did Renaldo Nehemiah.

Olsen could be a top notch #1 TE.

So, my conclusion is that even in the best case we have no #1 WR and maybe a couple support players for a QB that will be lacking confidence or inexperienced. That leads me to only one conclusion, my friends....

SUPER BOWL!!! BEARSSSSS!!

If they only have 2000 yards passing that will put them easily in the bottom 20% of the league in that category. I doubt Benson will have an impact next year either because he sucks or because his off field troubles. So you are asking a rookie 2nd round RB to carry an offense, and thats with a questionable offensive line. I dont think this offense is looking "adequate". I feel like "below-average" is generous right now. This defense will have to be easily in the top 3 for them to make the playoffs IMO.

It's a shame Jerry Angelo fell asleep the first two weeks of FA.

Thing is, he also had a nice college career where he showed the same skills he showed us in the '07 training camp and the preseason.

He has the makeup of a Welker, with better hands, but not as good running his routes.

Its the same story with every team in this city aside from the Bulls, and the Cubs recently, we simply don't give young talent enough of a chance, if any. You'd think that might change this year given the current WR corps, but it doesn't appear to be the case.

I havent seen Hass really but I find it terribly hard to believe he has better hands then Welker and isnt gonna be one of the top 2 WR's on the team next year.

Um, you remember that we're talking about the Bears, right? I'm surprised they haven't converted him to be a LB yet.

I don't know anything about Haas. I just think it was getting ridiculous that every time the Bears were having WR issues last year somebody would call in and talk about how great he was in camp. I mean every stinkin' time.

You'd think if he was really any good they would have given him a look at some point. I mean those guys are professional football talent evaluators watching the kid take every practice rep. But, mistakes can happen I guess.

I agree. I think its ridiculous goodkat compared him favorably to Welker. Im thinking maybe cuz they are both white? If he had better hands then Welker and just needed to work on route running something tells me he would be higher then 6th on the depth chart. I'm not a huge fan of Lovie and his staff, but I'll give them more credit than that.

Well, these are the same "professional football talent evaluators" who have apparently left us with Rashied Davis as our best receiver. So there's absolutely no reason, then, to trust their evaluation of the receiving corps.
