What are the odds Machado signs?

20 percent with the Sox

I'll roll with Keyser on this on.

If they don't sign Harper, they fucked this offseason up, even if they sign Machado. Brantley, I think was the final nail. If they don't land Harper, who is playing RF once Eloy is up mid April? I guess you could swing a trade.

I think an outfield bat is easier to find. Signing Machado would make this offseason a success.

If they sign Machado, in theory, the rebuild was a success.

Machado would probably be the best signing as well as value. Breaking our hearts on another slugger OF eventually DH that is not everything we hoped he'd be would crush the base.

Yep. They'd be set at short for a long time. Then they just have to figure out what to do with Anderson.

I feel very confident that the Sox are going to find three good MLB starting outfielders out of the group they have assembled in the minors.

Would you rather have Harper in RF and Mocada at 3B or Machado at 3B and Moncada in LF?

Set at 3rd, ideally.

I would rather Machado at SS which is where he wants to play. If he doesn't come here because the Sox refuse to move Tim fucking Anderson from SS, I'm going to have to find a new MLB team to root for.

Then you still need a shortstop. Because how much longer do you go on with a .285 on base guy who plays shaky defense? You can keep fantasizing about "tools" but the proof is in the pudding.

It really doesn't matter if they sign Machado or not, do you really see a serious contender with Anderson at short? I mean, I guess his defense came along a bit last season and if you're strong enough offensively you could just bat him last, but it's certainly not ideal. He's not a guy to fall in love with.

I don't disagree. His one great skill seems to be power for his size. The scary thing is that his batting average has dropped every season. If he hit .290 with those 30 walks it would be progress, but he traded off the 30 walks with 30 fewer hits.

Probably not. I suppose its possible if the Sox are great at 5 other positions, but yeah right now SS needs improvement as much as any other position on the club. And my hatred of 'Timmay' aside, I don't root against him. He plays for my team so I want him to succeed. I hope he's an All Star this year, but at this point Anderson is absolutely a guy you should be looking to improve upon.

My overall point was that if Machado wants to play SS, and the Sox tell him that they are set at SS and tell Machado that he would be playing 3rd base primarily if he signed with them, then honestly, all bigfan jokes aside, you might as well blow the thing up or move them to Vegas because I can't fathom a team choosing a Tim Anderson type player over one of the premiere and bonafide superstars of the game.

Me too. Just like I rooted for Davidson even though I know he's a bum.

Moncada for Bryant? Since the Cubs can't afford him apparently.

I should add if the Sox get Machado and trade away Abreu I won't see the offseason as a success. Machado or bust. #NoHarper

I think if you can get a good return on Abreu you have to take it. He's likely not going to be a key part when the Sox can actually contend. I suspect he is at least a few years older than advertised.

Anderson is tradeable. 1) there's always somebody who thinks he can fix him. 2) he was as good of a shortstop there was in the 2nd half.

I think that the Sox can compete for the division next season and for more in 2020. That's a bat that's hard to replace. Plus I have no confidence in the Sox development of hitters. He's a great role model for the younger guys too.

Do either Machado and/or Harper speak English? Might be good PR for the Sox to have a decent player that speaks English.

This is why I keep him. And the transition of Moncada, Eloy, and Robert.

Interesting take on waiting 1 year to get Harper....I only see him signing a yr deal if it's to a team where he's a near guarntee to get a WS ring.

Makes sense that if Jerry was getting ready to sell team, stacking up the team with Harper and Machado helps maximize dollars.....also makes more sense that Harper has a bigger marketing appeal.

I come back to Machado playing 3rd or SS....and that's just way harder to fill than an outfielder.

If the value for Machado is in fact dropping....he must have really pissed off a lot of people in Dodger land.

The longer this drags out without a bombshell offer for Harper I think he is going to go to Houston for 1 year.

No chance. Why 1 year? He’ll take big bucks and likely an opt out but he’s not betting on himself for 1 year. Even Heyward was smarter than that.

He's a better than average shortstop and it's a more important position than third. In the case of the White Sox it doesn't matter since both positions require upgrades.
