I'm hearing the deal is over 10 years and worth more than Stanton's deal. It has multiple opt outs.

A little birdie told me that the offer put in to Harper and Machado was for "significant dollars."

100% correct. I think NY is trying to sell him(Machado) on winning now, when he only cares about $$$. I think Harper or I should say Boras as 2 offers, and is trying to drum up interest with LA and maybe the Cubs. Neither are dumping salary to add him, nor should they. It makes 0 sense for either of them to add a $35-$40M player for 10yrs to their team.

Boras may get egg on his face again when Harper is forced to take a short term deal because no one is biting.

If Harper wants to bet on himself that would be interesting, but it could easily backfire. He has not been great for a few seasons.

Outside of a 3yr deal, I think anything shorter might not work out for him. Next years FA market is looking decent.

I don't think deals are going to get better than they are now for Harper.

I don’t think so. IMHO we are seeing the maturing of the new CBA era. Use guys while under control then let them squeeze out a living somewhere else. Only top pitchers and position studs will get Uber rich. And they don’t tend to leave always.

I think the days of the 10-year mega contract are over. Nobody wants to trot out a guy like the corpse of Albert Pujols.

I think you will still see mega-contracts, but the contracts will have outs for the teams based on performance measures.

They have to stop rewarding teams for tanking. Make those fuckers spend all that money and try to win now.

The wheel idea was floated in basketball. Over the course of 30 years every team would get every pick slot.

Implement a free agency draft with minimum contract values.

They don't have to do anything that extreme. They can simply eliminate the dumbass pool structure that gives the worst teams the most money to spend. Stop incentivizing teams that are bad and they'll stop trying to be bad.

I agree when it comes to guys over 30. Giving a 26 or 27 year old a 10 year deal may end up being a bargain.

Doesn't take into account expansion. Then you would have players staying a year longer to play for their favorite team.

How many 8-10 year deals have worked out all the way through?

Give me a list and tell me how old the guys were. A-Rod's first deal was a steal.

I think that saved baseball. KC and Pittsburgh as well as Houston really needed help. It might get slightly misused and could be better regulated but Yankees-Dodgers every year would suck.

Not sure in the past but virtually none now as the players are too old when they get them.
