My daughter had a choir thing this morning that was slave song focused. Later my son and I got into a discussion on the world, race, and our own relationships tonight. Hit a couple of interesting points but anyway... he hasn't really branched out with friends in Middle School and since I don't know what really goes on now I asked how he feels about people from different races, religions, girls, sexual orientations, etc. When I asked if he has any black friends his response was " We get along great at school but I think they think I'm kind of a dork. I don't know that they'd want to hang out with me." I laughed and thought I wonder if that is how Reader feels.  It was like I had an epiphany.

Reader went to Lab School. I'm pretty sure he is a dork himself.

I don't like to think of you as old enough to have a 14 year old kid.

I kinda was, mainly because of my age, but honestly going to school in Hyde Park was great for washing off the crap that was being a part of some of the first kids to integrate a suburban school district (under a federal court order, btw). It was funny in that community though as everyone was accepted. And still friends of sort. Oddly though, most of my friends/classmates left Chicago for college and never returned. I often wish I had.

But it wasn't representative of most of the country. Frankly I dislike this area and it's residents more each year.

Do you mean Hyde Park or Chicago in general? Are you referring to the cultural/class issues brought about by the gentrification of Hyde Park?

@TM really Chicago and the Midwest. And Hyde Park's gentrification has been a long time coming. It's overheated now and stupidly planned, but the kind of quirky nature has been lost for almost thirty years now. But it's trying to hold onto it's welcoming nature.

You should move to Phoenix where the taxes are low and the politicians aren't corrupt. Just to irritate them.

And TM, the funny thing is how quickly developers are cashing in on Woodlawn. Wouldn't have expected to see $700K homes so quickly.

That's what they're asking... Let's see em close on some first. I've been thinking about buying a building all summer. Probably gonna pull the plug next summer

It's funny, before he got swollen, he and my son were always mistaken for one another. He was a great kid to coach, and laugh with. He and another kid loved to belt out gospel tunes at the most inopportune moments.

Once in the late innings of a scoreless title game versus a then undefeated team. Who got really confused by the spectacle.

You pull the plug when you want to kill something.

Every now and then a trigger has to be pulled. Or not pulled. It's hard to know which in your pajamas.

He is swollen. His body looks great. His swing is pretty good too. A little firm on the front side but god damn he swings with intent. Hoping for big things from him this year. CB’s swing is broke. I don’t like the changes he made at all.

Chris doesn't want the game to come to him. He still thinks he can bend it to his will by playing hero ball.

That’s what I don’t get. You can see he’s workin hard. His body looks great. He ran good and threw the shit out of it. I’d love to talk to him and ask him what his approach is at the plate. I can’t see it.

Humility. He lacks it. But it's not his fault alone. I really don't think that he has perspective.

But on the flip side, what do you think of my guy Taylor Jackson? New Illini.

First time i’ve seen him. Pretty interesting. Has a lot of hand movement but it’s a fast loose swing. Have to see how it plays against velo but I can see why there’s hype. He’s twitchy.
