Do you suspect that it's above Stanton's? We're initial offers the 3 teams in that area? 8 or 10 years?

I suspect it's under for Machado and over for Harper. I do not know what their initial offer was.

IMO, I think the Sox have the highest offer on both. I believe this, because they have not signed. I think both Harper and MAchado see that the Sox are not going to be competitive for a couple a years, and they do not like that. I think, Harper is waiting for the Cubs(which is not going to happen) and the Dodgers(which is more likely than the Cubs) to make offers. I think Machado is hoping for the Yanks to make a better offer. I think the Yanks offered a 2-3yr deal, and he doesn't like that. It makes literally 0 sense for teams such as the Dodgers and Yanks to sign either of these guys to 10yr deals. For the Sox, I think Harper is 100% a marketing/brand for them to obtain, that happens to play pretty decent. Obviously, Machado is a gold glove kinda 3B for the Sox to get that happens to be delusional in thinking he is a SS. Everything points to the Sox, if the ultimate goal is dollars and cents. I think it is for MAchdo, and I would not be shocked to see Harper accepting a short term deal to re-enter FA. If the Sox do not get one of these guys, it will be disappointing, but they should be better next year to attract the Rocking 3B, and there are some nice pitchers hitting FA.

Nobody has made any offer close to what either wants and Boras is slow playing it like he always does. He is planting stories in the media regarding which teams are in and which teams are out. He stuck a knife in the back of the Phillies because they offered so low so he turned their fanbase against them.

The guy is ruthless. Don't believe anything you hear.

You might be right with the amount, doesn't change that I think the Sox have the highest offer with both.

They can ask for anything they want, but there are only a handful of teams who are going to be able to pay them what they want, and it was reported that Harper already turned down a 10yr $300mil deal from the Nats. Asking for something and actually getting offered something are two completely diffeernt things.

I'm going to guess that $300M offer never actually happened and it was another Boras leak that worked for both parties involved: Nats look like they made an effort to re-sign their star player and Boras was able to publicly set the market floor for his client.

Agreed - there is no rush for these guys to sign. Most teams are sitting on their hands and the market is moving at a snail's pace. These agents are going to try and maximize the deals so it's all about enticing a team like the Cubs/Dodgers/Nationals to get into the sweepstakes.

The White Sox wouldn't be one of the teams on these lists (for this long) if they haven't made any offer, especially on the Machado front if that one is (and who really knows?) further ahead with final offers submitted.

From all public reports, including the Washington GM, they made this offer, but it was not what Boras was expecting. Washington moved on, but has kept the door open slightly.

Any team with payroll capacity will stay on the list because Boras will keep them there to create a market.

No. You "guessed" that Boras leaked the offer amount to help his own client. You're out of your element.

Guessed that he leaked it to help both parties involved. And no one understands being out of their element quite like you Frank.

They didn't make it look like anything. They made a legitimate offer and though they have moved on with their off-season, they haven't completely ruled out signing Harper.
Big Chicagoan wrote:

Harper isn't signed yet, so nobody has any idea what the market is.

Out. Of. Your. Element. Probably best for you to stay out of this thread from here on out.

You are a fool if you just believe things that are said in the media. Its all a game to manipulate public perception and apply pressure to overpay on large contracts. If you can't see that, that is your problem.

I'll believe what is said in the media over the message board posts of some dopey Cubs fan with a bouncy tit avatar.

The bouncy tits do add an aire or credibility, I find.

Cubs should offer Harper 3/125 to line up with Bryant. THEN Harper and the Cubs can have a mutual option for another 4/200, which neither side is likely to execute but makes Boras look good from an AAV perspective.

I think the players rightly want a fallback position in the event that they get injured or suck like Heyward.

And the owners should put a big montage of Prince Fielder, Robbie Cano, and Albert Pujols on the screen and tell the agents to fuck themselves.

That said, Theo had the John Lackey deal where Lackey bet a season at minimum wage that he wouldn't get seriously injured, and that's how he ended up in St. Louis making $500k. So maybe there is something creative there.

Machado following the YES could mean something. I'm sure his heart is in New York. Follow your wallet, Manny!

If Manny goes to NY, he's kinda betting on himself. Yankee fans like their shortstop. So if Manny stumbles, it could be a rough ride. Manny should come here. We're cucks. Minimum 2 year honeymoon.
