I moved away from wrestling during the Hulkamania/NBC days and never came back.

To me, Mean Gene was the flagship of the Verne Gagne Minneapolis enterprise in the 70s and early 80s. In the days before cable TV, at least in my parents' household, Gene and Bob Luce were the staples of my Sunday morning, heartily endorsed by my grandmother (who was an avid watcher and introduced it to me) before she passed in the mid-70s.
