I think obviously, they have to have the highest offer. I just feel, he wants to go to the Dodgers but their offer is no where near what the Sox have or can offer. If it is about money, I think he Sox win. We know he wants the biggest contract this off season, and is waiting for Manny to sign.

Now that he is wrapped up, when do they bury him in the cemetery?

Jan. 4: In a full column, Nightengale cites four sources in reporting that Chicago has indeed issued an offer to Machado. However, while there’s no specific dollar amount revealed, he suggests that it’s “likely closer to $200 million than $300 million” in total value.

Meanwhile, Fancred’s Jon Heyman characterizes the Sox as a “long shot” for Harper (Twitter link), perhaps further underscoring that Chicago is more focused on Machado. It’s worth noting, however, that Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times writes that the South Siders’ presentation to Harper “impressed [him] more than he anticipated.”

Regardless, a Machado agreement hardly seems imminent. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic writes (subscription required) that agent Dan Lozano is “barely engaging” teams on Machado at the moment and is instead “waiting for a team to jump.” The White Sox’ offer, while somewhat of a jump, doesn’t sound the be in the vicinity that most expected Machado to command.

All of these reporters seem to be proxies for various agents or teams. The trick is to determine which reporter is the proxy for which party. Stating the value amount of the contract certainly sounds like something the agent would leak in order to get other teams to engage.

Lozano has a signed offer sheet. He has to be very careful about lying about it or it could get yanked. JR doesn't play those Boras games.

I guess all this sells newspapers and an audience for sports talk. But common sense is totally missing in all of this is that this is the White Sox we are talking about. And Jerry Reinsdork we are talking about.

And even if they somehow get Machado to join them, it would be a stupid move. The right move would be to continue rebuilding the farm system and to provide a flow of good potential players to the big club. And THEN and only THEN try and convince a couple of good young veteran players to join a team that can compete and win. THis is NOT the time for hamstringing the team with one player commanding half of the payroll. Plus.....Machado would be the last free agent that I'd want on a team with young talented players. He is a DOG and a dirty player. Renteria is a weak enough manager to begin with. Putting a guy on this team like Machado would be a huge mistake as a role model.

Going forward, the Sox probably ought to focus on trading for some young catching prospect and at the corners of the infield. I also would consider trying a move of our present shortstop to center field. I think that he would be better there than where he is now.

He's a great player(pretty much a 5 -7 WAR every year) and dirty doesn't bother me in the slightest. Pete Rose was as dirty as it gets.

AJ was dirty. That's always ok as long as he is on YOUR team.

Reinsdorf has to put butts in the seats. I think we will get him.

I heard from a good source that he wants to come to the Sox. He loves the Latino nightlife in Chicago.

I'm not saying a signing is imminent. But this is a guy who isn't full of shit. Also interesting that I read today that the Yankees are fine with going to war with Tulo until Didi gets back and are gonna wait on Machado to see if the market falls apart.

It feels like he is hoping and praying someone comes in with a better offer. Does not look like the market will be there though.

Baseball player looking for a contract is hoping a better contract is offered? That would be shocking.

If the Yankees match the Sox offer he goes to the Yankees. Do you agree?

You said a better offer.

I don't know what he would choose with an equal offer. The pressure is much greater with the Yankees. A lot of players have loved that and a lot of others have hated it.

I feel like the W Sox to him are the backup locked up choice now. If he doesn't get a better offer from someone else, he'll take the Wsox gig.

Reinsdorf is turning the White Sox into the Chicago Fire, but hey, fan$ are fan$.

Shit, the Sox should move to Toyota Park, or at least play a series there. I bet they'd sell a shitload of tickets.

why would an agent leak a lowball offer? That helps set the market. That's the last thing an agent leaks. Agents leak huge offers.
