Notre Dame is 1 point better than Bama

I'd be willing to bet that Clemson's staff spent at least the same amount of time on Alabama as they did on the Irish, before the semifinal round.

Yes, the Irish are pretenders.

Let's stop trying to make them into something they'll never be.

They lost 30-3 in the Playoffs... How is that not Pretender status?

And struggled with Michigan with a month to prepare. I wonder how badly Florida would've crushed them?

Maybe.

I guess the true takeaway from the game is that Notre Dame has a slightly better defense than Alabama and Alabama has a slightly better offense than Notre Dame.

By that logic, Alabama is a pretender.

I agree. ND and Alabama are on the same level. :P

Bitching about a win over the #7 team in the country?

Perfect example of the ND hate.

Notre Dame usually plays a pretty tough schedule with teams like Michigan, USC, Stanford and Michigan state. It happened to be a down year for 3 of those programs but its not like they purposely have an easy schedule.

Yep.

and people hold ND to a different standard. I see very little mocking of Alabama today like the day after ND lost to the same team by 1 LESS point.

Notre Dame beat Syracuse by 29 more points than Clemson did, so in a way the ND season series with Clemson is tied.

Plus, Alabama has only won 5 of the past ten national championships. So they're pretty big failures, too.

Of course Alabama was a pretender. Not sure how anyone who watched last night's game could argue otherwise.

Their resumes don't seem to suggest ND and Alabama were on the same level this year.

Plus the Southern game--which, in my lifetime. Has been Miami, FSU, Tennessee, Georgia, Clemson, etc. Usually a quality opponent.

Bitching, no. Comparison to another exposed pretender, yes.

This may be a crazy thought, but Alabama may be getting a pass for getting blown out and Notre Dame isn't because Alabama has 5 national titles since 2009.

Nah. It's probably because a bunch of people who don't give a shit about ND secretly hate ND.

Eight for Alabama in the last 40 years alone. Compared to the Irish's one.

Michigan was missing their top OL, RB, DL and LB in their game versus Florida.

NFL draft status aside, Devin Bush was really the only one who was irreplaceable. And imo that includes the underwhelming Gary.

Plus it's fun to give Dr. Ken a little crap

Coaching has to play some role in that. Good ND coach = good teams. Faust, Weis, Davie, Kelly....at least Kelly has had some good teams, but he's still a jackass who can't even compete in the biggest games.

I know ND complains about its academic standards and that until a generation ago the SEC played a lot of academically uninspiring student-athletes, but their standards aren't as high as some other D-I schools. If I am not mistaken, you have to get good grades to play at ND, though. So maybe they lose a few athletes, but get a good coach in there, and they'll be fine. Holtz could have won three if it weren't for two stupid losses, and they could beat anyone while he was there.

I still think you'll see Urban Meyer there.

I don't feel like Notre Dame is a destination school for any elite coach.

For a 50+ year old coach looking for the one last big job he's always wanted, it still is I'm sure.

Notre Dame is not close to the powerhouse Notre Dame of the 60s, 70s and 80s for sure.

But they are not a mid major either. People saying they should be treated the same as UCF are insane.

Just judge them on their schedule. It's usually pretty tough.

It is bullshit that they dont have to play a conference championship game but whaddya gonna do?

They could say screw off until you join a conference. Or schedule another game at a high ranked opponent.

Or have the best two independents play each other? I don't know.

I think ND could probably handle BYU. Would be a hell of an Independent Championship.
