All of these reporters seem to be proxies for various agents or teams. The trick is to determine which reporter is the proxy for which party. Stating the value amount of the contract certainly sounds like something the agent would leak in order to get other teams to engage.

Lozano has a signed offer sheet. He has to be very careful about lying about it or it could get yanked. JR doesn't play those Boras games.

why would an agent leak a lowball offer? That helps set the market. That's the last thing an agent leaks. Agents leak huge offers.

Frank thinks you are all out of your league for considering any of this. What is reported in the media is the truth. There is no gamesmanship at all going on.

Obviously, the Yankees are dealing from a position of strength. And signing Tulo for $500,000 is a good gamble that may save them millions on a Machado deal since Machado has made it known that the Yankees were his number one choice which was not a very astute bargaining strategy. But feelings can change if a guy thinks he is being jerked around. Maddux was desperate to resign with the Cubs but circumstances just wouldn't allow it. I'm pretty sure Machado, or at least his agents, can see the Tulowitzki signing for what it is and that may not make them very happy.

Boras would leak a low ball number into a high number. All I'm saying if it's a nice number, don't do it. I actually think it IS a nice number and it hasn't leaked as such. All I've read is the amount is closer to 200 than 300. Which is a very good AAV if it's a 7 yr offer(no more than 7 yrs according to Bruce).

From The Daily News:

According to another source, who knows Machado well, there is a wild-card to this negotiation who might tip the balance toward the Bronx: Machado’s wife, Yainee. According to the source, Yainee Machado – who is the sister of Yonder Alonso, the first baseman recently traded to the Chicago White Sox, one of the teams Machado visited on his sales tour – is enamored of New York City and very much would like to live here. The same source says Yainee has a very strong influence on her husband’s decision-making.

I was told the Yankees are working on something else and put Machado on the backburner. I was also told the Phillies are planning an over the top of offer that will blow everyone out of the water.

My sources tell me that the Phillies offer will be for "significant dollars"

You're off your game, DB.

Did. Not. Happen. clearly would have been the more acceptable response here.

Interesting. We can't lose to those fuckers twice within a week. Odds he signs with the Sox?

They know they won't have the highest offer. That's why they're doing all this other bullshit. Still optimistic.

What would you do if you get huge money for 7 years at short or huger money for 10 years, with the 1st couple at 3rd?

I'd probably choose Philly

Uh...the other bullshit also costs money. Seems to me take the bullshit money and roll it into a better offer. Too late now obviously. The bullshit has already been shat.

They clearly have the money. If he is the guy they want then they need to up their offer to make it the highest. Otherwise all this has just been BS to make the fans think they are trying.

Jay makes perfect sense because they need a RF, and Adam Engel sucks at the plate.

These are also short deals so it appears that 2020 is going to be a big year for the Sox.

Oh, I thought you said it was bullshit. I view it as bullshit. We have a 1st baseman who probably likes playing 1st base and everybody likes him at 1st base. So you're saying this is a move, absent a bid to get Machado, is something they do anyway? No, I call bullshit.

Abreu's defense is rapidly declining as is his health. They needed a 1B so he can DH. Alonso wouldn't be the first choice but like I said he's at least useful.

Jay has value as a utility OF....no harm on that signing.

I was the first to say this would never happen....but I think it's close and the Sox have done everything within reason to land Machado. Much more than the 7 yr numbers we've heard and it will be a contract they'd regret. Philly coming in with an insane offer will be like the Rangers signing Alex Rodriguez.

Agreed. Yankees aren't a player. They just don't have the need the Sox and Phillies do at these exorbitant rates. For them, there's always next year, when they actually do have the need possibly, Arenado.

His defense is not only not declining, it is better than 2014. His health declining is nothing but a guess.

I don't get how you can say they have done everything within reason to get him?

If it is purely about money then up your offer to get him. They were talking about possibly signing both Machado and Harper, so they clearly have the ability to go a little higher for the guy at the top of the list.

Now if Machado picks Philly or NY because of other reasons than money then there is nothing you can do and you can be content knowing your team did everything within reason to land him But if this is purely about money then the Sox need to commit to getting him no matter what. Otherwise it does nothing but tell the fan base we are not really serious.

I’m guessing the Sox do have the highest offer but this isn’t his first choice to play here . He’s hoping one of the other teams he’d rather play for up there offer a bit more .

I was thinking this too. Maybe the Phillies prefer Harper.

There needs to be a shit or get off the pot time limit on free agent signings too. These guys shouldn’t be able to hold teams hostage over weeks and weeks while they decide what the fuck they want to do

Teams held colluded and fucked them last year and may do it again this year. I'm okay with employees having a little power.

There needs to be a few changes. There needs to be a cut off on these guys like the 1st week of January, and maybe the next time you can sign if after ST. Another, is the trading during/after the winter meetings. Needs to be a cut off there as well. I feel, draft picks should be able to be traded.
