It's not that easy to "blow it up and rebuild". Who are all these guys they're gonna get who are better than what they have? Let's go player for player and compare to the 2005 World Series champions:

Abreu > Konerko
Anderson > Uribe
Frazier > Crede

Cabrera > Podesednik
Eaton > Rowand

That leaves second, catcher, Dye, and the DH that were better in 2005.

Wrong

Still looks right.

Frazier had the better bat, Crede had the better glove.
2005 Juan Uribe is better than any year Tim Anderson has had so far.

Crede had 888 games in 10 seasons.

SMH. I said that about Kyle Long who has missed MANY games over MANY seasons. Without looking it up, I'm willing to bet Crede played in probably 275-280 games between 2005 & 2006.

I'll agree on Eaton and Cabrera.
Abreu and Konerko is tough to compare, but Konerko has better power numbers.

There is no universe where I'm taking TIMMAY over Juan Uiribe.
Even with time out for injuries, I'm taking Crede over Todd Harrelson.

Your list is flawed.

Really? He hits more, slugs more, gets on base the same, and has an OPS+ 20 points higher. It's not really close.

I'd take Konerko any day of the week, especially for the Sox. Konerko could hit when it mattered and he drew people to the park (a very Soxian thing to worry about, but valid nonetheless). Don't get me wrong--I love #79--but I'd take Konerko any day. If Abreu leads the Sox to the playoffs--or in any way at all--then we can talk.

Crede played in 132 games in 2005 and 150 games in 2006...282 games total when the Sox were at their best.

Stay of White Sox business you dumb ccunt.

I'd still take Konerko...I agree that he proved to be very clutch throughout his careers and his power numbers are stronger. But....it's not as easy of a decision as I thought it would be after looking at the numbers. Konerko had peak and valley seasons throughout his career...and he was a big fan of grounding into double plays. JORR is not off his rocker on this one....I'd still take Konerko, but it's a valid discussion.

Crede v. Todd Harrelson is a great example of stats not telling the full story. Crede's 2005 numbers were actually underwhelming, but he was awesome in 2006. Todd Harrelson and his strikeouts? Hell no....that and his best years were behind him by the time he made the Sox. Crede was a key player on a WS championship team. There was no shortage of examples of Credde hitting in the clutch and being a great defender. Frazier was Dave Kingman...no thanks.

Again....I don't need any data to support Uribe over TIMMAY. That one's....just....

Stop. Mr. Fake Passport on his best day isn't near the hitter Konerko was. Plus he's never been in an important game in his life. Plus he's absent while the Sox aren't mathematically eliminated and once they are only then does he heat up.

Look, I like Paulie. He's a White Sox hero. I'll never forget hugging my friend Chris in Jimbo's when he hit that homer in Game 2. But he's way overblown by Sox fan in the same way that Cub fans make too much of Mark Grace. And there's no way was as good as Abreu.

Nobody is overblowing Konerko. You're simply overblowing Mr. Role Model, who has never been in an important game and is only a two time all star on one of the worst teams in baseball during an era of exceedingly weak first basemen.

What is this " never played in a meaningful game" horseshit? Neither has Mike Trout.. it's not Abreus fault or Trouts.

Trout has been in the playoffs and in playoff races. Mr. Fake Passport has been on 4th and 5th place teams forever. His worst two OPS months are April and May, the only time the Sox are still alive. By the time he bothers to show up the team's corpse has been buried.

Can someone remove Mr. Trout from the "never played in a meaningful game" bullshit. The guy is arguably the best player in baseball. If Trout was in Chicago he'd be a certifiable "god".

Paulie was better than Abreu. Uribe was a gamer and was better than Andersen has been. Crede and Frazier is pretty much a wash, as is Rowand and Eaton. You have to take the 2005 guys on defense. Both of those guys were excellent defensively at their position. I'd take Cabrera over Scottie Pods but I loved Scottie Pods.

Cubs pitch ran with Moyer and Maddux when they first came up (Maddux more so). Second go around with Cubs Maddux wasn’t running anywhere.

Oh come-on. Mentioning Mark Grace and Paulie in anykind of comparison is weak. Konerko, with two more average season would be in the HOF. He didn't and won't but he was a terrific hitter and good first baseman.

I'd take Grace over juiced up konerko, if Grace was a juicer he'd have 500 homers too.

Hilarious. Half of the National league first basemen at the time were better hitters than Mark Grace. And to say Paulie was a juicer is just the blathering of a cub stooge.
