Terrible. No way is BCS superior in any way shape or form. BCS is a good show, but BB is rarified air.

NME is correct. BCS is an all time great show on its own.

NME, WZ, and myself appear to be on an island here with that opinion though.

Saying it is great and saying it is superior in acting and writing are two different things.

If someone wants to say it is a great show, I am fine with that. I really enjoy it. But to say it is superior to BB is just silly IMO.

I think there’s a good argument to make that the writing and acting is superior but the plot is way less action packed so that makes it “less interesting” to most people.

The same exact writing team did both series so it’s tough to make an argument they somehow got worse, especially when most people acknowledge the writing on BCS is superb.

I don’t get the silly comment.

I get the same team did both but that does not make them equal. It is hard to live up to BB. The writing and acting can be superb on BCS and still not be as good as BB.

Saying I think it is silly is no slight to BCS. It is a really good show, I enjoy it thoroughly, but it just does not measure up to the standard of BB.

That’s obviously fair.

Is it also fair that some people, some who happen to write about TV criticism for a living, consider them roughly equal quality? That’s what I meant by not getting the silly comment.

The backstory to Saul on BCS is horrible. Not compelling or convincing at all. He wants to leave a high-paying gig at a huge firm because he prefers scamming people out of a few dollars? Or because he has some odd nostalgia for pranking people in Chicago with his fat ass friend? And Kim, who is climbing the ladder herself, wants to risk everything to get with this loser? Utterly unconvincing. So many more characters on BB and better character depth. The only well written character on BCS is Chuck.

Now see this is a flat out ridiculous opinion that I can’t respect.

You seem to be under the impression humans always make the most sound logical choices for themselves and improving their situation. Doing anything self destructive would be unrealistic. That’s the hill you want to die on here?

Hahaha. Not to mention Walt on BB. Please get all the way the fuck outta here with that vegan.

At one point in BB Walt is rich as fuck, on good terms with Skylar, and in remission, and he still doubles down on becoming Scarface. Yet a born fuck up who turns his life around but relapses into his old habits out of boredom and apathy is utter unconvincing?

Veganfan you have lost me on this debate. Idk what strain of logic you believe you are following in evaluating both shows.

I’m sorry. I still can’t get over the fact that there is actually a somewhat intelligent person out there who’s biggest issue when it comes to BCS vs BB is BCS is too unrealistic. I’m dying.

Good case to be made Jimmy McGill is the most realistic prominent character in the BCS/BB universe. Once the BB timeline hits he comes an actual obvious TV character like basically everyone in BB outside of Jesse, at times.

My Uncle did that. (not to scam people, but to do things on his own terms)

Also, it was clear by the end that money, or even family, wasn't as important to Walt as being known as the chemistry genius.

Agree, but I think he wanted to be known as an Empire Builder (Gray Matter, Heisenberg), not necessarily just chemistry.

He's actually, for my money, the funniest character on the show. I can't think of a bad scene with Roger in it.

Pete, Bert, and some other guys were funny but I don’t think there’s even a close second for funniest character on the show. Roger Sterling is one of the funniest characters in the history of tv.

Nope. I'm not one of those dudes. I'm genuine except in cases of obvious trolling and will concede points when I think it's fair to do that. How are you so offended by what I wrote? You also think BB is the superior show like I do.

I'll respond to FF later. For now I want to note that I am simply talking about character development. Plot is a different category.

Roger's "just when he got it in the door" after it was revealed the PP&L regional exec would lose his foot was delivered perfectly.

Ginsburg's idea WAS the better one, Don. So much so that you spent the whole night before the pitch agonizing over it.

Terrible. No way is BCS superior in any way shape or form. BCS is a good show, but BB is rarified air.

I stand by what I said. His writing is much more crisp with BCS (there are virtually no holes in the plot at all) and the casting has been next to perfect for the show. There isn’t a weak main character in the bunch where as you could argue there are a couple in BB (Jesse being one of the most obvious.. and he’s 1 of the 2 leads).

Breaking Bad at the time set a standard for regular cable TV there isn’t any going back from and was overall really well done from beginning to end -it deserves its place in tv history as not only a great show, but an important one as well. So don’t think I’m denying it those sentiments.

But BCS is a more well oiled machine from top to bottom. All of it’s seasons have been consistently of high quality, there’s virtually no filler episodes at all, and you’re getting peak performance from ever cast member. It’s just not as ‘fun’ for casual fans as BB was. So it’s doomed to be this ‘best kept secret’ type thing for snobs/critics.

Hell, we haven’t even gotten into ‘Fargo’ yet which is a stellar show that deserves way more love than I see people give it. 3 seasons in and for some reason it’s not constantly talked about. Is what it is I guess. For what it’s worth, season 2 of Fargo is my favorite so far. They’ve all been really well made tho.

I thought Jesse was phenomenal after season 1 and season 3 of Fargo sucked so bad I couldn’t finish it. Agree with everything else you wrote though.

Jesse killed it, you're the first person I've ever seen question the acting on BB. FF is right, Fargo season 3 was awful. First 2 were great tho.

Yep. Seasons 1 & 2 of Fargo is some of the best TV I have ever watched. Season 3 was trash.
