What you have to realize is, in the context of winning games, is that you have to have a policy that works on paper and on the field. When I was with the Machine, we had plenty of ideas drawn up on paper. We had policies such as make sure the 2nd baseman makes a nice double play when called upon. And, while on the voting committee, keeping certain players out of the Hall of Fame. Now I've done my part but sometimes it isn't always translated to others who are given the same opportunities. What is understood is that no person who gets into the Hall of Fame should do so under false pretenses. That is a policy that stands firm and is unbreakable.

Say, though, that you play for the Cubs, and some biased covert government operation that even my brilliant daughters couldn't compromise slips through the cracks and suddenly, you have players in the Hall of Fame that don't belong.

Well, that is not my policy. That shouldn't be a policy of winners. But even though I am a voter, I am not Chief of the Committee. Believe me when I say that there are policies that are being drafted to change that, though.
