If a center snapping the ball makes 11 muffed snaps - whether it is a regular, shotgun or long snap - he would not be back next season. Period. End of sentence. New paragraph.

In fact, the center would never have had the opportunity to achieve 11 total bad snaps. He would have been replaced or cut after the third or fourth.

Nothing personal against Cody Parkey, but there is zero chance he returns next season.

There's 5 million reasons he's back.

That's exactly what is so wrong about this. :(

He missed 5 out of 25 kicks in 2016 and 3 extra points in 2017. Nothings screamed "very good" about Parkey. Pace was a fool for signing him to a large contract based on his average at best stats.

Before this season Parkey was top 5 in fg% for qualifying kickers in his career.

1) Justin Tucker 90.114%

3) Steven Gostkowski 87.381%
4) Will Lutz 87.000%

When I first heard about this I thought, "what a horrible idea for a kicking drill." Narrow the width of the uprights maybe, but focusing on hitting an upright is a good way to subconsciously train your mind to hit the upright.

Aren't NFL contracts non guaranteed? So couldn't they cut him still?

 How long have you followed the NFL? It only matters what amount of a contract is locked in. Parkey was guaranteed 9 million at signing.

Unless all of those guys percentages stayed the same, those numbers are current and not "coming into 2018"

Coming into 2018 Parkey was actually 76-88 for a top 5 qualifying 86.36 % (Lutz was 84% so he took Parkey's spot)

You guys owe FF an apology at the very least.

For the record....no....this does not scream let's guarantee the kicker $9 million

Parkey made 91.3 percent of his field goals last year, and he hit 80 percent in 2016 when he played for Bears special teams coordinator Chris Tabor on the Cleveland Browns.

He actually missed more extra points (3) than field goals (2) in 2017, but he was 14-for-14 on kicks under 40 yards.

He was top 5 in FG % before this year.

I hate him but you posted bad info and then implied FF was a short bus rider.

So if being wrong about FG % makes one a short bus rider, I must ask you sir, how was your ride this morning?

Read in the Sun Times today that cutting him and signing a guy like Gould at expected market rate would result in an investment of almost 9 million into the position in 2019. The highest investment into the position in the league this year was about 5 million and the average is about 2 million.

He's coming back.

This is sort of the same calculation that leads me to believe the Bulls will retain the incompetent Jim Boylen as coach - if they fire him and get a new guy in, it would basically mean the Bulls are paying $10M at the HC position (two fired coaches and the new hire), which is above average and something you only pay to living legends, like Popovich or Jackson.

It sucks that Parkey is probably coming back. Best case scenario is they find a cheap phenom through massive competition and send Parkey packing.

I don't get the analogy. The Bulls are trying to lose games. The Bears are trying to win a SB and they are trying to win it by riding a dominant defense and a decent offense to get there. Having a shitty kicker destroys that game plan, and a 1 year cap hit of $9 million at the position is more than feasible right now where they are with the cap situation.

It's just about how much teams are willing to spend. The Bears should be in win-now mode and I agree they should find the best kicker regardless of cost.

You take the hit for one year to boost the morale of the team. They have a lot of inexpensive options at other positions and not many draft picks. SB teams can't count pennies. It's sunk cost.
