There was something about him saying he had impeccable sources saying Manny was signing with the Yankees and that he was so sure he would deactivate if he were incorrect. I think the playoffs turned the Yankees off him. They're looking for any excuse not to sign him. And they don't really need him. I think he would be an ill-advised signing for the Yankees.

If Harper goes back to Washington, then Philadelphia will easily top that offer (assuming that's what it is). That's likely what Machado is waiting on. But he could end up in the same situation as J.D. Martinez did last year. It doesn't make sense for the Sox to bid against themselves or against "mystery teams", i.e. teams that don't exist.

I think most of us already agreed that many of these "reports" are propaganda stories fed by owners and agents. So far we've had...
A) Machado looking for a $300 million deal - No one came in and offered that
B) 10 yr offers are on the table - Nope, nothing has happened there
C) Surprise bidder waiting in the wings - Still no deal

This is likely one last desperation attempt to try to lure the Yankees back into the bidding. If the Sox offer really was only 7 yr / 175 million....they'd have publicly written off the Sox a while ago. This is fake news.

That's fantasyland. In 99% of cases the player goes where the most money is. Nobody says I'll take 20 million less because the Cubs or the Yankees or the Red Sox are called "heritage franchises" by dan bernstein. It's really simple. If the Sox offer the most money, that's where he'll sign. if someone else offers more, he'll go there. Even if it's Tampa Bay.
