You know, I don't want to sound like an old guy talking about how he walked three miles through two feet of snow to get to school, but we do seem to have become pussified regarding winter. My wife works in Deerfield and they let them go early last Friday. It wasn't even snowing. I talk to people all the time who act like I'm crazy for going out in a little snow or on a 15 degree day. I know there hasn't been a real bad winter recently, but I can remember some winters when it was cold and snowy for the better part of two months. People did leave their houses and kids did go to school.

For the most part I agree. When its snow pretty bad, getting off work early is nice. Friday there was absolutely no call to shut down anything early. Saturday wasn't even bad. I think during the entire time I was in grade school we had two snow days. There were a few more when I was in high school, but there was also a heater that broke for a couple days leaving half the school without heat. Very few closures due to actual cold or snow though.

I can understand on Friday if schools or businesses open a little late because the actual temperature is going to be below zero. Its cold out there now, but its nothing like the polar vortex in 2013 was.

4 or 5 years ago there were two rather cold winters speaking as someone who is out in it daily. It was pretty nasty here yesterday temp wise but the wind didn’t blow so it wasn’t unbearable. I can deal with most anything if the wind doesn’t blow dkthough -3 highs are pushing it.

The year I was down and out and shoveling snow to keeps the lights on it seemed like it snowed every day. I think that was 2008-09.

My parents bought me one of those Canadian goose coats last Christmas. I didn't want because it is so bulky and it seems every douche is walking around in one downtown. I didn't have any need to wear it in the second half of last winter and this winter had been warm. I threw it on yesterday for the first time and that thing is really great.

I think it is overkill to wear it in anything but extreme temperatures but I am not pretty appreciative to have it for these 10 degree days coming up
