All those Best Picture movies sucked or look like they sucked. What a shitty year. Give it to the comic book movie I guess

I wish people would be honest that Black Panther is not one of the five best movies of the year. The suggestion is pandering.

I thought it was good for a superhero movie. Ive only seen a few of the Marvel ones and they are all pretty good.

They should have a category for best movie to see in a theater.

Black Panther isn't even one of the top 15 Marvel movies. Average movie at best.

Shit like this is why I haven't watched the Academy Awards in 3 decades.

The movie has cultural significance

Black Panther should be nowhere near a best picture nomination, and I’m the biggest comic book movie nerd on here.

This is a joke.

They announced they were going to do a most popular movie category this year, and then there was so much backlash by movie snobs they decided not to do it.

I don't have a problem with a superhero movie being nominated. At least it beats the trend where the only nominated movies are a bunch of people frowning at each other for two hours.

I'm right there with you. I wasn't exaggerating when I said it wasn't a top 15 Marvel movie. Seriously overrated movie that was obviously hyped up because of a societal agenda.

List of Marvel Movies easily better than Panther:
Iron Man
Captain America
Avengers
Winter Soldier
GOTG
Ant-Man
Civil War
Doctor Strange
GOTG2
Spider-Man
Thor Ragnarok
Infinity War

ok, that's 12. So maybe it is a top 15 marvel movie, but it sure ain't top 10. Pathetic that it's nominated.

Agreed, Black Panther was fine. I was disappointed after seeing it as I expected the story to not be so lame.

Now BlacKkKlansman, I enjoyed that one. It can stay.

My wife and I tried to watch Roma 2 or 3 weekends ago as it was on HBO and we couldn't finish it. After a while we looked at each other and asked if the
other was even enjoying it and we both said no. I hit pause and there was still an hour and 15 minutes left in the movie.

Starting in February we will rent a few of the contenders On Demand and watch at home. Kind of a weak field this year it appears.

We had this exact same thing play out a couple of years ago with the "Carol' or something , the 50's-era lesbian move that was nominated.

I haven't seen "Roma," but there is a great documentary from like 20 years ago called "Lachto Drom" about Roma people. find that one, it's good.

This is the least interested I have been in the Oscars in years. Hoping to check out Bohemian Rhapsody this weekend and then A Star Is Born comes
out next week I think On Demand. We almost watched The Wife last weekend but I couldn't pull the trigger on it. Looked boring to me. I'd like to see
The Favourite and Vice but not sure when they come out.

Roma I turned off halfway through, Black Panther was kinda lame and overrated, BlackkKlansman I thought was solid.

I don’t think this is going to be a good oscars.

Also, the decision to throw editing, cinematography, and most of the technical aspects of film off the television broadcast is sheer madness. Those are actually the fundamental parts of movie making.

Not a good look to get rid of those categories but maybe between that and having no true host they can get the show in under 3 hours.
