The Patriots are not comparable to the NBA anyway. It's not a foregone conclusion that the Patriots will be in the Finals or win them. They manage to get there a lot, which is why they are so great, but every year, it's a different struggle and a different way they get there. They're not just the most talented team in the league by a wide margin.
Counterpoint to that is it’s been like 20 fucking years now with the Pats. It would be like if Kobe and Shaq were STILL running roughshod over the whole league. At least it’s a new dominant team every 5 years or whatever with the NBA.
That's why they're so incredible. There is no other team that has done that in either conference.
If I were to ask you who will win the Super Bowl next year, you'd have no idea. There could easily be some upstart team that comes from nowhere. That is absolutely not happening in the NBA. Part of it is how the league is structured, but part of it is also just the game of basketball. Upsets are less frequent. In the NFL, there's not really even such a thing as an "upset." (there is, but you get my point). I think NBA fans should just embrace it and stop fighting against it. It's obviously the most top-heavy professional sport. All you have to do is look at a list of champions throughout their history.
