His character arc began and ended but then there was no way to send Ed Helms home from your show, especially once Steve Carell left.

Honestly, I think Will Ferrell himself just didn't feel his character at all and they killed him off pretty quick. It was basically just a ratings grab. His first episode is pretty good. After that, not so much.

I disagree. Either the show should of ended with Michael leaving or The Office should of changed in some way. Or, they should of taken a page out of the British version, and done like a 2hr special a year later.

I am stuck “shawshanked” for the better part of the morning in an Office marathon on Comedy Channel. I forgot how good it was.

So there I was, nearly passed out in a drunken stupor on the couch--with a half-eaten burrito precariously perched on my gelatinous and quaking belly--while watching The Office.

And then it occurred to me that this is one of the most sinister shows in the history of television.

While it purports to be a comedy, it really amounts to nothing other than an ideological tool used to normalize the tyranny of the PMC over "uneducated", "rustic", proto-Trump supporters.

From the beginning to almost the very end of the show, its central feature is not so much the relationship between Jim and Pam as it is the torture Jim and, to a lesser extent, Pam, exact on Dwight.

Although the writers of the show attempt to present this couple as the show's main protagonists, Jim and Pam really should be seen as its unredeemed and unredeemable villains. They are awful human beings who revel in humiliating Dwight--not for days, weeks, or even months--but for years. Lacking a moral compass, driving passion or creative vision, Jim devotes his utterly banal existence to undermining Dwight in almost every way imaginable. His entire life is structured around his relationship with Dwight, and that relationship is based exclusively on antagonism and domination. This show is class struggle disguised as culture war and written up as comedy. Like Jim and the PMC more broadly, though, the show may be clever, but it is ultimately heartless, soulless and clueless about who really is the hero of its own story.

Dwight is a merciless enforcer. His entire ethos is the closest thing to true fascism ever written into a half hour network comedy.

Dwight's not a great guy by any means. But don't fall into the PMC ideological trap of thinking that Dwight "deserves" to be humiliated or that Jim's hazing and bullying is somehow "funny". Jim's "cleverness" doesn't make him a good guy; rather, it simply enables his sociopathic behavior--arguably the defining feature of the PMC--to be seen as endearing. He is a psychopath in sheep's clothing.

Of course he deserves it. We’re talking about a guy who tranquilized a coworker and threw him down the stairs. A guy who deserted a colleague miles from work because she was too fat for his liking. A guy who pimped out a younger coworker in order to make a sale. The list goes on.

Jim may be an imperfect vessel for taking Dwight down a peg, but ridicule is arguably the best method for confronting a jackbooted thug like Schrute.

Absent ridicule, Dwight’s flaws are less obvious and people forget the inherent danger he brings to the workplace. You can draw a straight line from the lack of pranks in the later seasons to Dwight’s ill-fated trial run as manager where he implemented a Juche style governance model and nearly shot Andy.

The funniest moment in the show is when Michael threw the watermelon off the roof, hit Stanley’s car, and asked Dwight to call a hate crime attorney. All downhill after that.

The look at Stanley's face at the end of that is priceless.

I certainly wouldn't count on Jim's reign of terror to bring justice to the workplace.

The fact that you so genially embrace bullying, hazing and humiliation as reasonable ideas make me think you are the Johnny Lawrence of your office sweet.

This is a dark day for the CFMB.

There is no justice in this world.

Lawrence was an interesting choice. Bad guy? Maybe…if we’re going to damn teenagers based on a few bad moments. But as we’ve learned, he’s more the product of external forces than innate evil. Yet we focus on him rather than the truly malevolent Kreese (or better yet, Silver).

In many ways, Shrute is the Kreese/Silver of the Dunder Mifflin universe. That may not make Halpert Mr. Miyagi, though if somebody had put Silver’s gi in jello a time or two, perhaps he wouldn’t have gone on to found a nuclear waste disposal firm and a hardo children’s karate dojo.

This is exactly the kind of thing the slick and clever Jim Halpert would say to rationalize and normalize his unjustifiable behavior.

I fear for the safety and lives of your office mates.

The "Jim is a dick" backlash has been around for a while. Not just the Dwight stuff but the way he treats Karen, making all family decisions, the Philly thing etc.

Well, yeah, it's obvious from the start that he's kind of a dick. But he's ostensibly a lovable dick.

This simply isn't the case.

The point, though, isn't simply that he's a dick; rather, it's that he embodies a PMC/suburban liberal ethos that seeks to dehumanize and "other" those who do not share the questionable values and world view of the PMC.

Halpert’s out there on the front lines doing the real work. The Shrute apologists are sitting here judging his methods like some sort of 21st century Lt. Weinbergs.

When the shooting starts - and it will start - the PMC will be at the vanguard while its critics are whining about bullying.

I wasn't aware that Tall Midget was such a fan of the Professional-Managerial class. Dwight, with his position as Assistant Regional Manager, may actually represent the worst of that group of people as he seemingly pushed his way into power first by pushing his way into a promotion over the rest of the office by brute force but later by purchasing the building to torment the entire office and further position himself as a person of power within the office. Jim may have had questionable actions at times in his dealings with Dwight but it is clear that Jim is fighting against the class war that has been fought for decades against people in his position that simply want to be a productive worker while having no desire to enter management to the point where he accepted a wide range of supervisors after Michael left even though he clearly was a better choice to lead the Proletariat.
